Albert Einstein once said, "Occurrences in this domain are beyond the reach of exact prediction because of the variety of factors in operation, not because of any lack of order in nature."

While he wasn't talking football, he might as well have been. Only 50 percent of teams from the 2005-06 playoffs made it back last season. The year before that, only five teams from '04 made it back to the postseason. I think we can go out on a limb and say it was due to what Einstein called "the variety of factors."

So with Einstein's words guiding us this season, we're going to share a little loosely grounded insight to determine which teams won't make the playoffs. After all, everybody predicts who will make the playoffs

NFL and science doesn't mix

Colts: Funny thing is, when Indy doesn't make the playoffs this year, we'll still be seeing more of Peyton Manning than we will of say, playoff-leading quarterback Marc Bulger. Tarik Glenn's abrupt retirement knocked him off the Manning family Christmas card list and should be for defensive ends what opening up China's markets meant to Western business interests in the late 19th century. Mario Williams won't look like such a bad buy when he's celebrating his fourth sack of a Colts quarterback on Dec. 23.

The defense didn't get anything but smaller and less talented with the departure and loss of guys named Cato and Booger. And relax, people -- it's just a down year, not the end of a solid franchise run.

Titans: You're good if you make coaches game plan for you. You're great if you can still do what you want when coaches game plan for you. That's where Vince Young stands, on the precipice of greatness. I'm guessing he'll always be more fun to play with in Madden then he'll ever be fun to play with if you're a wide receiver. Ben Troupe should never lead your team in receptions. He'll be doing it for the next three seasons in Tennessee.

As big of a Texans fan as I am, I can't see the Colts on a list like that and us not. Unless it is supossed to be a given that we won't. Still it's good to see a list like this without us on it.

Without Glenn, their O wont look as good as it has these last years. They also lost starters on a really bad defense. They wont win the division, and may not make it in. That will be...., the freakin Jags. God that hurts to say.

Good article with some gutsy calls not based on AP-reporting, so I liked it. One reason the Texans may not be on this list is that half their games are against these teams. (Just playing Devil's Advocate here.) If you figure that the Colts, Titans, Browns, Falcons, Dolphins, and Buccanneers won't make the play-offs, that's eight teams of 8-8 or worse that the writer is figuring the Texans will play. That makes for a decent shot at the play-offs. (Again, just playing Devil's Advocate.)

Obviously I'm not an Indy fan (LOL), but there's no way they fail to qualify for the postseason.

Actually, we are petitioning the NFL to have you wear Colt uni's both games. We have no problem getting up for the ponies.

Considering you have a losing record vs every team in division I would say the Jags need to learn to win in division before they will ever be anything.

That and realize Leftwitch/Garard/Couch is not going to take that team anywhere.

We didn't lose them. We know right where they are.

Actually we may struggle as Nelson gets his feet wet, Sensabaugh played well last year. We should also get some help with the pass rush as we get Hayward back. As for the coaches, I never liked Anderson as the QB coach. Shula has come in and picked up nuances that should have been found years ago on both Qb's. We'll how the season unfolds, I like our chances this year.

You lost your SP Coach and OC as well corrrect? I would say that is pretty significant. Your WR are as bad as the Titans are and you stumble late in the season when it matters.

I think the biggest mistake was the coaches that were chosen. Another .500 season with no playoffs and a losing record in division and I can not see how JDR stays.
