Default Travis Johnson feeling the heat in Texans camp.

Quote:
Travis Johnson was heralded as an all-around defensive lineman when the Houston Texans drafted him 16th in 2005.

He was supposed to be strong, explosive and as tough a pass rusher as he was against the run.

Travis Johnson is ready to make the grade.

But with two disappointing seasons behind him, Johnson has yet to live up to that potential and it might be time to wonder if he ever will.

Johnson had 26 tackles and a sack in 15 games as a rookie while struggling to adjust to former coach Dom Capers' 3-4 defense after playing in a 4-3 system at Florida State.

Coach Gary Kubiak said last year in mini-camp that he was the player who had the most work to do before training camp began. It appeared that the talk worked as Johnson arrived at camp 20 pounds lighter, with a new attitude and excited to be back in a 4-3 scheme.

I know that some have made fun of TJ's dance in the end zone. But I found it a welcome "almost" taste of success, that showed emotion.......and possibly acting as a trigger for more.

You're right, the big fella must be in better shape. Last year he probably wouldn't have gone the distance.

And what WAS that anyway? The jumbo version of Chad Johnson's River dance? Some mutant version of hop-scotch?

Better get the cheerleaders to show you a couple of basic steps big boy. Come the regular season, I want to see you dance again ...for the same reason.

The thing is, he had to have rehearsed that. Ocho is one thing, but can you imagine that bear of a guy, sitting in front of a mirror, two-stepping?

When TJ did his dance, the first thing that came to mind was John Madden in "the Replacements" when he said his favorite thing about fat men scoring touchdowns is you get to see the fat man dance. It's so much better watching big guys dance than the usual.
