While he is suspended next year, if he is not paid the future balance on his contract, look for a NFLPA Complaint being filed. The police didn't charge him. They took blood and released him. And it doesn't take 2 weeks to get a BAL blood test back. Try an hour tops.

If he is under the legal limit, no charge. The Bears should have waited until they had hard evidence.

Sgt. Andrew Duncan, a police spokesman, said Johnson was arrested for "DUI Impaired to the Slightest Degree" but was released without being booked or charged.

Duncan said Johnson was taken to the Gilbert police station, where officials drew blood for a blood-alcohol content test before his release. He described Johnson as "very cooperative."

At any rate, there probably were gobs of slicky lawyers who could fret very little about who they put back on the streets, they are only after the legal fees, er I mean seeing that all defendants get their due legal representation,
day in court, constitutional rights protected, etc. I imagine they could have beat this rap easy, but hats off to the Bears. They removed that option from the table by cutting Johnson outright and abruptly.
Yup, it's gonna be fun to see who picks him up and read their rationalizations about their reasoning for doing that.

Kudos to the bears for doing this outright. They finally did something right this offseason the first time around.

I don't get why these guys insist on driving when they know their career is on the line with the slightest blip on the radar.

I think someone might take the risk on him for a small price and limited contract. We're set at DT but i'm thinking the someone like the dolphins who need to get younger on the dline.

I wouldn't be so quick to say that the Texans are set at DT in general and NT in particular. The Texans could really use a player like Tank Johnson, that is if he can stay out of any further trouble.

Amobi, TJ, Zgonia(sp), Maddox stepped in and played well enough to earn a spot last year. I expect hose 4 to be the rotation going into the season. Not sure about Malone and Thomas Johnson on top of those. I think we're set and we don't need a NT.

I wouldn't bother wasting time or a contract on Tank. I'm sure he'll find a job somewhere where they can afford the risk and are looking for interior help. I just don't think this is the place. After what we've done the past few years...all of our Dline had better be set.

Are you going to tell me that Travis Johnson, Jeff Zgonina, Anthony Maddox et al are better Nose Tackles than Tank Johnson? What is the risk by the way? Are the Texanns not capable of constructing a contract with a personal conduct policy? I find this mindset that the teams can't afford the risk to sign a free agent with a history of bad decisions to be ridiculous. It is something different entirely to pass on someone early in a draft as there are many good players still available. But, when we are talking about a quality free agent with some baggage, available among a throng of backups and developmental plalers without baggage, then there is a real difference. If the Texans were to sign Tank Johnson then the only loss that they would have in the event that he could not stay out of further trouble is a roster spot for a backup or developmental player, and at the time of the event they could immediately replace that spot with just such a player.
