Default Retired Texans = Zero

Why is it that this organization has never had a player officially retire as Houston Texan? Several players have been cut and never heard from again (i.e. Gary Walker, Seth Payne, Jay Foreman, Zach Wiegert, Eric Moulds, etc.) but none has ever retired as a Texan (Boselli does not count).

Kailee Wong doesn't fit here?

Seeing that your SN leads me to believe that you're a huge Kailee Wong fan, you must not think that he fits in this category. Why not?

We've only had 6 drafts in our history, so no original Texan would have much time for a career to retire from (and people only care if someone good retires).

As far as vets, it looks like Wong might be our first, though.

I believe he came up with his moniker from the 16 Candles movie, IIRC.

Has Wong officially retired?

Wong was asked to restructure his contract and refused. I believe he received some sort of settlement. I would not categorize him as gracefully retiring from the Texans since he left the door open to playing for another team, even though it's more than likely he will not get that chance.

I'm guessing that McKinney will be our first unless he can't beat out Flanagan or the depth guys at Guard. Simmons, Bruener and Salaam would be other candidates.

Yes, Wong was my favorite Texan and Long Duk Dong rules.

I will never accept Tony Bosseli as a Houston Texan nor do I accept his retirement as a Houston Texan without playing a single down for us. In fact, I've pretty much deemed him as a LT curse on the Houston Texans.

The way I understand the Tony Bosseli selection in the 2002 expansion draft is that we had an 'understanding' with the Jacksonville Jaguars... Sharper and Glenn (I may be wrong on the two players/team but it WAS two players...) would not have been included in the expansion draft if we did not agree to select Tony Bosseli who was severely injured at the time of his selection.

DISCLAIMER--- I do NOT claim to be an expert nor do I claim my words to be as of a fact but it's just what my vague average fan memory remembers. I welcome corrections if I'm wrong. Just be nice about it!

You know what? Your post invigorated me into doing a little bit of searching. Your response was semi-accurate. I've discovered a link that details the Kailee Wong situation.

http://sports.espn.go.com/minorlbb/n...ory?id=2872798

Either way, I flat out did NOT know that Kailee Wong did not officially retire! I ran with the whole Kailee Wong retiring thread and took it to be as a fact. I appreciate the insight on the scenario and am now pondering the whole thing together as of right now which is that Kailee Wong is an official FA at the moment.

I knew you had to have an explaination for starting this thread knowing that you're a die-hard Kailee Wong fan.

I'll be giving you some rep for this.

I believe there was also a paralell sitution going with willie roaf, and he had problems with his physical but magicly bosselli was cleared. If only we had gotten roaf...oh well water over the dam.

It was Gary Walker and Seth Payne. But there were some comments from the Texans' brass that led some people to believe they actually thought Boselli might be able to play. Amazing the Jags could get rid of two quality players like that and end up with Stroud and Henderson. Here's to getting to that point soon.

On the other end, I'm not sure how much these retired players would want to continue to be associated with a history of losing. Payne and Walker, for instance, had a much more successful time with the Jags.
