Default Leon Hall

Quote:
This week, we explore the background of Michigan's Leon Hall:[/i]

Overview: A 2006 finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award (as the country's top defensive back) and Bronko Nagurski Award (top defensive player). … The consensus All-America selection posted 45 tackles (35 solos) with a sack and a fumble recovery in 2006. He led the squad with 18 pass deflections and intercepted three passes. … He set a school record with an 83-yard return for a touchdown of a fumble recovery, deflected four passes and recorded four interceptions as a junior. … He was a San Diego Union-Tribune Scholar-Athlete Award winner while competing at cornerback, wide receiver and quarterback at Vista High School.
Positives: Has a solid frame with good chest thickness, broad shoulders, defined upper body with muscular arms, tight hips and waist, well-developed thighs and calves with room on his frame to carry at least another 10 pounds. … Hard worker who plays until the whistle. … Smart, instinctive defender with very good field vision and quick reactions, especially attacking the ball in flight. … Has natural hands and very good ball skills, timing his leaps to get to the ball at its high point. … Shows good flexibility coming out of his breaks and has the ability to slip a block and make the tackle in the backfield. … Well-respected team leader who plays with aggression and never takes a play off. … Explosive hitter who keeps his pads low and shows good arm extension to wrap and secure. … Has the speed to stay tight on the receiver throughout the route and is very good at anticipating the route's progression. … Rare to see him caught out of position.
Negatives: Has good timed speed but lacks explosion coming out of his breaks and needs to mirror the receiver closer rather than allow a big cushion. … Hard tackler but must use his hands better in attempts to jam and reroute at the line of scrimmage. … Sometimes relies too much on his recovery skills and lets receivers make underneath catches.
Comparison — Buccaneers' Ronde Barber: Hall is a sound field technician who might not be the biggest or fastest defender on the field, but, like longtime Pro Bowler Barber, he is good at getting into position to make the play. He is a solid zone-coverage defender, but with his field vision and natural hands (along with a lack of blazing speed) he could be a better fit at free safety down the road.

I've made up my mind.

If he's on the board at 10, and no one of significance has fallen this is the player I want.

can't go wrong with hall.

i don't like the comparison, though. hall is one of the better athletes at his position in this draft. chris houston ran a faster 40, but look at all the drills--hall beat houston in all of 'em. 4-year starter in a tough conference. could also return some kicks or putns in a pinch.

NFL network did their little in depth coverage, that they do for the prospects, on him yesterday...

I watched him play a couple times, but the times I watched he didn't really stand out...

But they showed some film and I fell in love with his technique...And you're right...he is a better athlete than what he's given credit for...

Hall just doesn't seem like a shut down corner. I don't think he'd beat out DRob as the #1 CB either. I think Revis and Houston have the most potential to be shut down corners and either could be #1 CBs on the team. If you look at Houston's 2006 game film vs. Hall's, Houston was WAY more impressive. But Hall has been consistent throughout his careeer. I'd also be stoked if I saw Revis and Mathis as our KRs, our special teams would be a force to be reckoned with.

I think most people agree that Hall has excellent technique for a college player.

He is also a lot faster and athletic than he is given credit for.

With his skills and technique there is no reason to believe that he will not be a shut down CB.

I wouldn't expect any rookie we drafted to un-seed Dunta as our #1 corner...

I agree....

And it's not like there are tons of better options at 10...

Actually, I don't think he plays up to his speed.

Even in his 3rd or 4th year, I don't think Hall could take the #1 CB position from DRob.

I don't even understand why that matters ??

We're always going to have atleast two corners on the field...

And didn't we take Dunta at 10? We'd be taking Hall at 10...

Right, well I'd rather have a shutdown CB(Revis or Houston) and a good CB (Dunta) rather than just two good CBs (Dunta & Hall).

Why does it matter where we took Dunta?

I think you're mixed up here.

Dunta is a playmaker CB, a guy who takes risks. Revis is the same way. He is very good, but he is not a shut down CB.

Hall never takes risks. He always plays the WR, never the ball. He only gets INTs on bad throws. I have no problem with that. I would trade INTs if it would guarantee that our CB would have the WR smothered on every play. That is why Hall is a shut down guy.

Because you said he wouldn't beat Dunta out as the number 1 corner...I'm trying to figure out how that's relevant and why that matters....

You say it as if Dunta is terrible....Like "he can't even beat out this scrub"...

With Leon Hall, there aren't too many teams that'd have a good young duo like us...

And you're saying you'd rather have players that aren't going that high, and won't be there in the third round..

IMHO, Leon will be one of the more safer choices for us....Not to mention it's a position of dire need...
