In college at Hampton, Jerome Mathis averaged 26.4 yards per catch on his 93 career receptions.
What's Mathis' status now with the Texans?

Hmmm . . let's see now.
a) Injury prone b) In Kubiak's dog house since day one. c) Attitude problem d) Has maturity issues e) Gets into fights with his teammates f) Cannot run a route when he plays wide receiver g) Probably won't make it out of training camp. |

He needs to get healthy. The guy can't stay on the field. If he does get healthy Kubes wants him to compete as a WR and not just a KR.

Yet he is the only Texan to get voted an All-Pro.

Like I mentioned earlier, it was probably the worst thing that could have happened to him. In his mind, he doesn't feel like he needs to learn anything.
Add to the above mentioned, he's a pick from the old regime. Something that the new regime seems hell bent on purging. |

He is a playmaker and isnt that something Kubiak said we needed? Its true that he has some issues that he needs to get together...but everytime I watched Devin Hester (who is a back up DB on the Bears) highlights last year , I was like that is the same kind of weapon Mathis has been and still could be...He's probably never going to be a #2 receiver but I'm sure he could garner a roster spot as a #4 and being a special team specialist.

I dont understand why everyone thinks he is so immature, not a team player, and all that. I have never heard any of that in the media. Just because he got in a motorcyle accident doesnt make him a bad person.

Played against Mathis in college, so I've pretty much witnessed his ability first hand, in your face action...
Hopefully the new regime hasn't soured on him because it's fairly obvious he adds a lot to the return game and can make game breaking returns... |

This was covered pretty well in Houston Chronicle. He did get into a fight with another Texan and was late to meetings as I recall. The talk shows talked about his immaturity and ego. My understanding was he thought he had done well in college and did not need anyone to teach him anything.
