he did same thing praising Texans until they passed on Vince, then got all snotty. Well here it is again in 2007 Kolb is a possibility McClain is all sunshine and smiles, now with trade for Schub his mancrush Kolb will go elsewhere.

who the hell can say if Houston gave up 'too much' for Schaub?

If he turns out to be the player that most people are predicting, then I'd say its a GREAT trade in the Texans favor.

If your team is unsettled at QB and has a chance to get a franchise QB, YOU DO IT. There will be more draft picks every year as well as a few good free agents may actually want to sign on at 'market' because of the (hopefully) improvement.

Given away the farm??? Over the past few years your Titans have drafted players like Tyrone Calico and Antwaan Odom in the 2nd round. Are you trying to say that Schaub isn't worth those two guys?

The Seahawks gave up TWO Number 1 picks, AND a number 3 for Hasselbeck. The Pack gave up a #1 pick for Favre. At the time of the trade, neither had ever started, and had less throws in the league than Schaub. Were those bad trades too? Did those teams give up too much? Look what the Giants gave up a couple years ago just to get the rights to draft a rookie with ZERO experience in the league. Any trade is a gamble, but with the premium placed on the QB position, to say we gave up too much is just silly. If anything, we got a bargain in comparison.

Well, obviously, trades are based on percieved talent and, obviously, Schaub's percieved talent trumps that of Billy Volek by a considerable margin.

Still, the Falcons already get an A+ on the trade. They got two seconds and moved up two spots for their back-up QB. The Texans grade hinges on Schaub's performace; if he lives up to his hype, the Texans get an A+, if not, the Texans get an F. That's really the crux of the trade.

Just what are the Texans getting? I spoke with several people who have been close observers of Schaub's first three years with the Falcons. I asked them about Schaub's intangibles. Here's the consensus: Schaub is a popular player who is polite and genuine. He can tell a joke and take a joke. He's a hard worker who spends a lot of time at the training facility. He spends a lot of time with his teammates. He gets along with offensive and defensive players. The recurring theme in their comments was that Schaub believes that camaraderie builds chemistry, and he's willing to put in the effort required to be a big-time quarterback in the NFL.

Those intangibles don't guarantee that Schaub will be successful with the Texans, but he's got what they've been looking for. Now it's up to Smith and Kubiak to continue to acquire players who can protect him and help him make big plays.

I see it as giving away a 2nd rounder in 2008. All we did is swap 1st rounders which now makes that OT look better at #10 or eight. We eliminated the decision to choose between Laron Landry or Reggie Nelson at #8 if we go that route.

It is probably more than likely we would've got a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round. Well Schaub is that 2nd rounder. If he works out well, that 2nd rounder in 08 doesn't mean nothing.

We would've taken more of a chance on a 1st round QB that would've demanded way more cash and hasn't played anything in the NFL.

Sounds like Kubes and Smith did their homework, talking to two coaches that worked with him in Denver and one that was the head coach at Virginia when Schaub played in college.

Not all opinions have to be negative. The same people insulting the FO will be the same ones kissing their rears when the team starts winning. I agree completely with the gist of this thread.

We were looking to move back or move up as it was. We only moved back 2 picks where we will still get a guy we were looking at. So it was basically 2 2nd rounders for Schaub. One of those covers a guy we would take in the draft. The other we can maybe recoup moving farther back and we still can hopefully get a 4th or at best a 3rd for Carr. Overall we upgraded to a young, experienced guy and in my book didn't sell the farm. I'm more excited about this season than I've been in a long time.

It's only a bargain if Schuab pans out.

It's a gutsy move for Kubiak/Smith at this stage. I really don't understand why they had to pull the trigger on the QB position this year. They could have let Sage run the ship a little and see what shakes out by building out core parts of the team.

IMO, this is a clear signal they expect to be above .500 next year and compete for a playoff spot. It further means, that they believe Schuab can carry the offense on his back! No DAVID CARR excuses for Schuab! You don't give up the draft positions they did for a guy that is only going to need more help.

Right now, it's a great deal for Atlanta. But, time will tell if they unloaded the right guy.

lol thank you. how can anyone say we overpayed or got a good deal? if he takes us to the playoffs and puts up insane numbers then we got a sweet deal, if he sucks worse than carr (which i think is impossible), then we got ripped. I like shuab and i predict it will be a good deal, but he may suck big time in which case ill say it wasn't a good trade. Every draft pick and trade is a gamble, except for all the masterminds on this thread who can see the future and know everything.

I agree in part. You can draft good guys and every year add through the draft but every once in awhile you have to get ballsy. We didn't last year with VY or anything but still had a solid draft after the 1st. This year we decided to shake things up. I couldn't be more excited. The stagnant ait year to year was getting to be too much.
