wow, this is actually quite sickening.

raheem orr is shantee orr, i think he switched names or something but he's the same one.

i too see domanick good as gone, and seth payne was released.

that's like 21 players by my counting that we still have from our drafts. and something like 30 that aren't here anymore...that's just plain bad scouting, draft selecting, trading, coaching, and any combination of them.

Is it just me or was that 2003 draft look completly horrible now. At least Andre will be a Texan for life...the only player we can say that about...hopefully mario and demeco follow in his footsteps!

I understand what you are saying but how is this statement fair to the current management. The former management was sorry and was replaced. Kub and Rick Smith have done a great job last year, and I have faith in them this year.

I am not blaming the current regime, it is just an fWIW kinda thing to look at and see what happened to this franchise...the sickening part is this team has been building and building and looking at how many guys we drafted didn't even play in the NFL in 2006 ...I mean the talent level the Texans had and we couldn't even get our own draft picks to stay here either starting or depth and they couldn't.Now I understand when someone is in the 6th round or 7th round, the odds aren't good but there are a bunch of 1st day picks...that is horrible drafting on the Texans over the years

not like it matters all that much but Curry Burns (2003 7th round pick) is still on the roster http://www.houstontexans.com/team/ro...n=TH%20Players

i see, we drafted raheem orr in 2004.

Shantee Orr was an undrafted free agent signe by non other than the Green Bay Packers in 2003, we later claimed him on waivers a few months later.

The average career in the NFL is slightly more or slightly less than three years I think - I can't remember exactly. That would lead one to believe that there are a lot of teams that don't keep many players. Probably not to the extent of the Texans though.

It would be interesting to see this done for all other teams around the league to put the Texans numbers in context.

Volunteers?

You saved med the trouble of asking the question. In order to 'rate' our former GM/HC, we should compare them to the draft choices of other teams. Instead of someone from these boards doing the work, perhaps some fans from other teams would be willing to do this for their respective teams. A NFL-wide fan-investigation and comparison of GMs/HCs draft choices?

As it turns out a chimp with a dartboard would have been smarter than Casserly. We need to get over this "the experts are smarter than we are" mentality. That's not necessarily true.

The "GMs are privy to more information than we are" card is overplayed too. Why did everyone on the Raiders messageboard know what a crappy player P-Burn was when "the expert" didn't?

Default Re: Horror show

While not altogether surprising (something had to go wrong for us to suck so bad over the last three years), it is sobering to see just how badly the Texans braintrust did in selecting and developing talent.

I take the view that a day one pick should yield a solid starter....especially on a team with as little talent and as many holes as we've got. Obviously there will be some misses and busts, but they better be very few and far between in a building process.

After five years of drafting, we should have between 10-12 solid starters if the drafters have any clue.

There should be some depth/backups & the occasional starter that comes from day two. That obviously hasn't been the case with our organization as well.

Last year was a step in the right direction (potential mis-step with Williams) aside). We've potentially got four starters in day one depending on how Spencer's injury works out. Another good three first picks this year and maybe we can begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel and it won't be a train.

Go Texans

I am truly not surprised by this because the fans on these message boards have contact with one another, and if someone is wrong they are told that by other people. After a while we have a better view of the player than the FO does. The FO only has a minimal ammount of scouts, and they can't see every game for every player. IMO the CC an Capers teams' scouts were often just 'yes men'. The fans have contacts to everywhere, so in essence they have more information available to them than the "experts".
