O-line not our biggest need, heres why...

We all know there are MANY needs on our team, with having high hopes that Spencer comes back healthy and Salaam along with Black can be solid reserves and us having little or no injuries on the line...high hopes, i know...I think if our defense keeps points off the scoreboard, our offense can put enough on to win...so I tried to fill our biggest defensive needs along with adding a deep threat to accompany Andre Johnson...

I don't think that Chris Brown is going to be the answer in Buffalo...If Adrian Peterson is there, I believe we can trade down with them and acquire thier third rounder...With re-signing Ron Dayne and with the Ahman Green pick-up, I honestly don't see us drafting a running back this year...I also don't think we can fill all of our needs this year...Since next years draft is going to offensive line deep, I think we should focus on our other needs first...

Round 1: Reggie Nelson S/Florida - We need a guy to cover the guys who are burning our corners...Reggie Nelson is the answer and with the extra time the defensive line gets form all of the coverage, there should be more sacks and hurries...

Round 2:Sidney Rice WR/South Carolina - With Moulds gone, we need to have another solid reciever...Rice still has the potential to be a number one reciever in the NFL...Having two on this team would be awesome!!!

Round 3: Brandone Mebane DT/California - A little undersized but is a hard worker on and off the field. He could push Travis Johnson for the starting job (shouldn't be too hard lol)...I think he would be a good fit for our defense...

Round 3: Kevin Kolb QB/Houston - Start to mold him into out future quarterback...He can be an eventual starter or let him be a reliable back-up, but I think this could be a huge steal!!! I'm a homer and think this kid is a great quaterback for any scheme...

Round 4: Daymeion Hughes CB/California - Not the best player at his position, but solid...Smart on the field, but may take too many chances...Reminds me of Nathan Vasher at times, he's very good on special teams also...

Round 5: Dallas Sartz OLB/USC - Tough player that can make a big play...Don't know too much about him...He had solid numbers and with the additions that we made with our linebackers (hopefully we can snag Shawn Barber) I think he will add depth and will produce on special teams...

Round 6: Dan Santucci OG/Notre Dame - Our offensive line seems to be our "biggest" need, but there isn't that much talent in this years draft...I think this kid could be a solid pick-up, a hard worker that played under Charlie Wies.

Round 7: Dan Mozes C/ West Virginia - Undersized and needs to add strength...Very smart on the field and will make all the calls...He won the Rimington Award (best center in college football)...He's a hard worker and if given the chance, I see him at least making the practice squad...Maybe he could be a steal and be our future center for years to come?

I'd be happy with this draft cause it address all of our needs...I hope with the addition of Jordan Black, that our offensive line will be solid if Charles Spencer can't go...Feel free to comment, thanks!!!

Mozes probably wont last that long.

I also disagree with not needing a runningback, Green and Dayne are passable, but old. AP will be a 1200-1500 yard rusher in his rookie season, almost any team could use that.

AP wont see that many carries to get 1200 - 1500 yards, i believe he would most likely be used like Reggie Bush...

AP can not be used like Bush, Bush is a scat back. If the right team picks up AP, he will definately get the yards. AP does have good hands, but Bush's hands were crazy. Bush could also do KR and PR. AP is a more conventional back, who does tons of damage on the ground. Thats just how I see him anyway.

I just can't imagine any one drafting AP and not using him enough. He is proven work horse who gets stronger as the game goes on. He will definitely get his touches and yes he will consistently get yards more then 1500 or 1600 a season if he stays healthy.

Healthy AP means closer to 1800+ yards a season rushing alone. Bigger question is will he get the OL support he needs by which ever team drafts him.

If Adrian Peterson is used like Reggie Bush, then the team that drafts him won't be getting full value for their investment.

That team, by the way, won't be the Texans so it's useless to even speculate about it. I do like the proposed draft by baba (for obvious reasons), but I do see a problem.

By all accounts, the draft falls off after the first six or seven players. Anyone picking at number 8 will probably be reaching for a player regardless of who is picked, unless someone falls out of the top 6 or 7 for some reason. With that being said, I don't see any other team desperately needing to trade up to number 8.

Unfortunately, I think we're going to be stuck reaching.

baba- all the Texans have signed are stop gap type of free agents, these are not the type of players you build a long term foundation with. Peterson & Levi Brown are. all black, salaam, green & dayne provide is depth & serviceable reinforcements for the time being. in no way shape or form would I let any of them determine the Texans future. the draft is the best way to build franchise cornerstones

Exactly that is why I love what Smith has done this off season. This does not lock him one way or another on a certain position in the draft and he can actually draft for BPA. Although I think AP is not the answer and would be wiser to either draft a different position or trade down and get more picks.

Of course our biggest need isn't o-line. it never has been. our OT who are having major injury concerns always come back.

Yeah... Do you know what is even less of a need on this team? A new QB. I know that it is popular to hate David Carr, but this team isn't going to be a threat to win the Super Bowl next year just by changing the QB. Using a pick on a QB this year when there are a myriad of other positions in dire need of upgrading would be the most moronic thing that the Texans could do. I hope that Smith and Kubiak have enough sense not to waste a 3rd Round pick on a QB this year. If they want to pick a new QB do it in the 2008 Draft after they bolster the O-Line in the 2007 Draft so that the new QB isn't pummeled every game like Carr was.

hughes may drop but not that far........he is imo the best corner or near the best corner in this draft.....i knew he would have a slow 40 time as well as the scouts....it was predicted before the combine. he is an elite corner that will prolly go in the 2nd round.....

i'm expecting hughes to go round 4. not only is he slow, but he's not physical at all and guys like steve smith destroyed him. he's a cover 2 guy, plain and simple, and he's not going day one.

I think your right on this one. Every year, people on this board massively overvalue a player in the secondary and predict a meteoric rise among the draft boards....it was pretty much a lock in board speak that if Ko Simpson fell to the second, we would take him....then we were stunned by Demeco being the choice....then in the 3rd, we thought with ONE of our 2 3rds we would get Ko....then after day one, we had the first pick in day 2, and we openly proclaimed that Ko would be the pick...then we took owen. Ko was projected on all of our mocks as a round one.....this year, Hughes is being touted as a round 2 or 3 pick....a lot of mocks have him going late first. I just don't see it on tape.

Where did you get that assesment of Dan Mozes from? He is 6'2" 295 perfect size for a C. He also did 29 bench presses at the combine. I have been hoping he would drop to the 4th but if we want to get this kid we would need to take him in the 3rd.

alot of people consider a good sized center about 6'5" 310ish, so i think he's a bit undersized...

be careful when looking at how many reps they did...it can be deceiving..it's easier to do them when you have short arms.

I think that Secondary is the biggest need/weakness of our team. draft looks farely deep in wr/ol. so I'm hoping the BPA happens to be someone in the secondary..cuz that would fill/ help fill our biggest need. If not..i wouldn't mind us trading down a few spots and getting a secondary guy in landry/nelson/hall/revis/houston.

the only thing i see is that it seems if the FO sees a guy that they like more than the others, in other words fits the texans team better than the others they will take him at 8. just my opinion. If they fall in love with leon hall...i'd expect them to draft him at 8 and not take the risk of pulling another travis johnson type trade down...and i'd be fine with that.

Thank you agreed. The other one is McCauley. I'll believe someone is going to buy the numbers after watching the game film when I see it. I know a lot of folks keep mocking him for the Texan's, and I am a numbers guy to a point...but he played realy badly last season. I can't get past that. I'd rather gamble on the nobody with better numbers myself. There's a herd of them out there posting sub 4.4's. All shapes and sizes, all day long. Got find one or two of them the scouts and coaches like better than McCauley, and for that matter Hughes.
