The Minnesota Vikings were ranked dead last in passing yards given up per game with 238.6.
If Landry is considered good value for us at 8, is it too much of a stretch to imagine him going at seven ? To THE worst passing defense in the leauge ? I'm thinking he may be a little more coveted by them than some may think.

Yeah that's a good point on him being coveted by the Vikes. Their problem i think is at the CB position, but like you stated Landry is Top Ten material. As for our team, if Peterson,Landry,Quinn are gone by #8, i really hope a trade down scenario happens.

The Vikings had the best rushing defense in the NFL last year so the "worst" pass defense is kind of skewed......nobody could run on them so everyone put the ball in the air.

That's a good point... I didn't know that... But with an improved Pass defense, they could become dominant. |

Our pass defense is horrible. If we hold onto the ball on offense more, it forces the other team to be in a situation to pass (whether they are down in score or down in time) We play right into their hands, teams are forced to pass and eat us up...lol

The Vikings need a QB and WR more than anything.

2.8 yards per rush and 61 total yards per game allowed. They were the only team in the NFL that didn't give up 1000 yards on the ground the entire season. http://www.nfl.com/stats/teamsort/NF...G/2006/regular Also, they took Jackson with a 2nd round pick last year....most teams taking a 2nd round QB don't expect them to start for 2-3 years. I don't see them taking a QB at all this year.

I dont work myself up over who is going to take whom right before us. I think once we see the #1-6 pick we will see that multiple players are still available for us to select, and become a better team. Besides, is it such a bad thing to NOT take a safety in the top 10?
I think if Landry does get scooped up, we will still have a quality player available. Lets say the top 7 teams take the top 7 players. Russell, Johnson, Quinn, Adams, Thomas, Landry, Peterson. That still leaves: Branch, Okoye, Anderson, and Hall would all still be on the board. And this is a worst case senario. Face it, we will get a great player at #8, or even better, find a trading partner to trade down with.

if landry is gone, we could hope for meriweather or griffin in the 2nd, and if neither of them are there, weddle, though he'd be a stretch at the top of the 2nd, and then theres michael johnson in the 3rd

I would be thrilled if Minny took Landry - that means we get one of the top 7 players: either qb/rb/wr/ot/de (I think the two DTs make it a strong top 9 but I think we need DE more)
My order of preference: 1. Joe Thomas - he will be gone - simply because we need a stud OT 2. CJ - he will be gone - don't really need him but he and AJ would be scary 3. Peterson - he is probably gone - a better dickerson 4. Russell - he is likely gone - we need qb - see Quinn 5. Quinn - he is probably gone - but we need a qb and you gotta take chances sometimes - all the arguments about him would apply to Russell if we were picking earlier - or to Palmer/Vick/etc. in whatever year. 6. Gaines Adams- may be there -because a stud DE would hopefully round out our DL. 7. JAnderson - See Adams |

I agree. Griffin/Meri would be great in the 2nd - and t might be worth moving up a little to get one of them. Weddle would be great if we had a low 2nd rdr. Johnson would work in the 3rd (I always forget the name of the last one in the top 6 - but if this is him, he is fast and strong like the other 5 and should very good - if it isnt him then I mean the other guy).

michael johnson isnt really fast. he's 4.55-4.6 but he has great instincts and can make plays. very good ball skills. if we take him, we need a solid CB in the 2nd.
landry, meriweather, or griffin really opens up the draft for us. id actually prefer meriweather in the 2nd and in the 1st we could take okoye, adams, anderson, brown, peterson, or quinn. okoye DT meriweather FS david irons CB mike walker WR datish/henderson/hall/barbre/frye OL ford DE that draft fills alot of holes except for LB and DE and QB, however, Okoye frees up Mario and he can apply pressure from the inside, which makes a DE less of a priority early in the draft. I'm pretty much locked on with Mike Walker in the 4th, so a CB in the 3rd is the only choice, which isnt a bad deal because we get good talent to fill a big hole, even though it isnt as big of a priority now that we've got a very good FS in meriweather. the OL in round 5 are all projects with upside to be LT's except for Datish at C. Ford is also a project DE with speed. |

I think it's fair to say that the Pittsburgh Steelers paid pretty close attention to the Vikings & their defense. They sure picked up Tomlin in a hurry after Cowher "retired".
