Poor pun I know forgive me, but its late and I can't sleep
So anyways, I was searching through the roster and came across Kaliee Wong's name. Now I know we are trying to cut people for cap reasons, soo....why is he still on the roster? Given I never really liked Kaliee (out side of football....great guy, great to the communtiy and everything) on the field i wasnt fond of him. I'm just wondering why we are still paying this guy a huge amount of money ....for baisically nothing. Are we going to draft some new OLB's in the draft then release him? With the current pick up of Danny Clark I would hope that meant the end for Wong. EDIT: and while on the subject of linebackers.....what to do with Babin? Is he being used as a back up end?

June 1 is a very special day. This is the time players can be cut and only a partial amount of the cap hit is on that year. So basically it seems to me that both Wong and DD will be history at that time.

Last training camp, Babin and Peek were battling it out at DE. During the season, Babin was coming in only part of the time. On third downs, I think. However, he had some impressive numbers. I think it is time for him to move full-time to the defensive end position.

I saw him last year at the Texans blood drive. He and a number of other players were visiting with folks giving blood. He was very cordial, and said he had been busy with rehabbing. I would think it would be terribly frustrating to be one of the best at what you do one year, and then the next year not being capable to do the only job you have ever had.

How can he move at a full time defensive end position with Mario and Weaver at the end positions? |

because Weaver can play DT. My guess is that Weaver and eventually Mario will move in and out depending on down and circumstance... For instance, on 3rd and one, I would expect Mario and Weaver to play DE. However, on 3rd and 10, assuming we get another pass rushing DE, it's likely we'll eventually see Mario and Weaver move to DT and use edge rushers at DE. |

That does make sense, if Weaver can play DT then, i wouldnt imagine why we just dont play him there then and let babin play. That would probably help out T. Johnson some too |

All effective DL's rotate players to keep them fresh. So, if you have an undersized DLman like Babin, you want to using him on passing downs and rest him on running downs, while using your bigger guys to stuff the run. |

For Wong, he was pretty good one year, but after the injury..too much money for no production, he ll be gone.
I think a lot of people haven't noticed Babin, yes he had a bad first season, but switching to this 4-3, and putting him at DE...well thats his turf right there. He led our team in sacks, while only being in like 33% of the time. That is impressive, in my opinion. I think we should keep him, be a pass rush specialist, and maybe have weaver be in on other downs, and on passing downs, weaver slide to d tackle, and with babin being our pass rush end. He wasn't worth us trading a pick for, but I think he is worth a second to third round draft pick.

I didn't think Babin had a bad first year at all. His 3-4 OLB stats matched up pretty decent with the rest of the league (if I recall correctly). It's just people had such high expectations because of the trade.

if we had him on passing downs with mario and weaver that would be quite a trio of trouble for the quaterback, if we can get Travis Johnson in the mix and actually stay healthy, i doubt we should even draft a defensive takle very high in the draft, we would have a very good D-Line. But we would need to work on the run more with those pass-rushers. |

Injuries have ended Wong's playing days for the last two years and coming back will be hard. As for the rest of the Dline talk, I think it's obvious that Travis is the odd man out, with Maddox doing a Very Good job at DT. And even though Babin only had 6 sacks that lead our team I say keep him, Weaver, Mario, Babin, Maddox looks good, Ryans, Greewood, Clark looks good as well, maybe the CB/S position is going to be the draft focus (?) unless Quinn is available.
Wong was a leader, as was Sharper, and he was missed two years ago, but today everyone looks to Ryans, and that is a great place to start.
