hey everyone, just a quick question.... will anybody honestly miss antwan peek??? i looked at the browns forum, and the consenus there seems to hold that we gave up a player that is potentially awesome (hahaha).. personally, i will NOT miss him one bit. but, i never held him in high regard.. and i know some texans fans used to think he was good.. so, what say you?

Since we switched to a 4-3, Peek's potential hasnt seemed quite as great. I think he is a much better fit in a 3-4.
Good luck to him in Cleveland. I hope he does well there. |

Sad part is that when we had 34 defense, none of these players were happy and openly lobbied to change to 43 defense. They all felt they will excel in 43 defense but that has not been the case so far.
Despite all the talent which Peek might have had he hasn't stayed healthy enough to play full season and the amount of time he did play, he was very inconsistent. With change to 43 defense, both Peek and Babin are out of position. I think we also need to address Babin situation, he doesn't fit our typical 43 DE position and he doesn't want to play OLB. |

I predict he'll get the conditional $5 million salary in his contract and will be able to void the final year of his new contract.
In other words, I think he's going to be the Texans' next Marlon McCree/Steve Foley/Moran Norris.

Babin is in the same situation. I wish him well and hope he finds a system that suits him and that he blows some people up.

I'd actually hazard the guess that Peek will average about 8 sacks a season from here on out. He never had many moves but he was strong and had a mean streak. I think he was poorly utilized here and can make a good "pass rush specialist" ala Robert Mathis of the Colts.

Please. Peek had plenty of opportunities here. If he had Mathis' ability, it would have shown. Peek could never play the run, and a pass rush specialist should have more than 10 sacks in 4 seasons. Peek had better play well (and smart) on special teams or he won't make that team.

the bottom line with peek is that he was much better suited for playing the 3-4 OLB position than the 4-3 DE position...he needed to go to a 3-4 team...this is what's best for him and this franchise...i wish him luck...he's a heck of player...and romeo crennel i think will get more out of him than capers ever did

I agree that he wasn't good against the run. Which is why I likened him to a pass rush specialist. A statement that I'll stand by: I think he can succeed as a rusher in passing downs.

I liked Peek, but I don't think he was ever the right guy for the 3-4 and he did make a lot of mental errors (i.e. stupid penalties). I still wish the guy all the best as he was a pretty solid guy off the field as well.

Peek was unquestionably our best pass rusher, and yet we didn't resign him.
Just another statement about how weak we really are in that area. |

Yeah--it is going to be hard to replace his 10 sacks over 4 years.

I'll miss him. Hard to be productive when sitting on the bench. I saw him make enough plays in the limited snaps he actually played to take notice. I think he will go on to have a nice career.

Peek just didn't have what it takes upstairs. He had all the physical tools and had a high motor, but was beat repeatedly and was slow getting to the gap. He's better at the 3-4 however so he will do better there than he did last season. Funny how he's going back to a 3-4.

We are still trying to replace Jeff Posey.
