Doctors advise Gannon to retire

Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon, his broken neck immobilized by a hard cervical collar, promised he will make an announcement about his football future sometime today. He watched the Raiders' 31-3 loss from the last row of the Coliseum press box Sunday, shortly after visiting another physician for a prognosis regarding the wisdom of playing after fracturing the C7 vertebra.

Sports Radio 1150 in the Bay area has stated, although not official yet, that Al Davis has hired Gannon to be the QB coach for the Raiders.
