Defense
Year GP U A T TFL Sacks FR FF Int PB 2003 13-0 9 8 17 2-3 1-2 0-0 0 0-0 0 2004 11-1 11 15 26 2-4 1-2 0-0 0 0-0 0 2005 11-10 10 13 23 4-17 0.5-4 3-0 0 0-0 0 Totals 35-11 30 36 66 8-24 2.5-8 3-0 0 0-0 0 These are his stats, so why the hell do people have him as a #1 pick? These aren't that great and he's only 6'1. Their only a few players that are at 6'0 or 6'2 that are good (e.g. Greg Kelly, Warren Sapp, etc.) He's undersized and young (which might be the only good thing) why not take allan branch or wait till the second round? WHAT WOULD YOU DO IS YOU COULD PICK HIM? PLZ PICK LEVI BROWN, TEXANS PASSED ON D'BRICKSAW FURGESON, SO DON'T PASS LEVI, WE NEED IMMEDIATE HELP W/ O-LINE. ALSO ISN'T S. LOCKLEAR A FA FROM SEAHAWKS? |

I'm not huge on Okoye, but how can you seriously not be impressed with 55 tackles, 15 TFLs, and 8 sacks from the DT position from a 19 year old? He did damage that the top DEs in this draft did, but from the DT position. What part of that isn't amazing?

the reason for all they hype is this...he's is built extremely similiar to tommie harris and brodrick bunkley...two very athletic DT's who will be terrorizing o-lines for years to come...that being said i'm actually with you on the levi brown front...i believe we need immidiate help at the tackle position since spencer's injury...and i wouldn't stop there if ryan kalil is there in round two i pick him up as well

he measured at 6'2 287lbs at the senior bowl. he's explosive and mobile. young, coachable, and his upside is very high due to his youth and athleticism. he can put on weight and bulk up to 295lbs if needed. he's quick and can rush the passer and collapse pockets. he's the equivalent to a true sophomore, and put up 55 tackles,15tfl and 8 sacks. you'd be all over his jock if he could play 2 more years in NCAA and then came out as a 22 year old.
branch- 25 tackles, 6tfl, 2 sacks |

and look at branch as well. he's a crapload bigger, but what else? he wasnt as productive, he isnt as fast or explosive, he's 2 years older, he isnt as agile or mobile, so whats the fascination with him? because he's huge?
on pure ability alone, okoye has branch |

Amobi Okoye dominated some pretty good linemen and he doesn't type in all caps like certain people.

because you don't look at stats when projecting a player into the NFL. especially a DT, lmao.

Okoye proved to be a one gap DT while Branch proved to be a 2 gap DT.
My comparisons: Okoye - Tommie Harris or Warren Sapp Branch - John Henderson minus the Insane drive, mean streak, and half the talent

Okoye and Branch's stats certainly don't matchup with Adams, Anderson and Johnson's do they?

Here we go, measuring a defensive lineman by his stats. Branch is a good player, but he fits a 3-4 scheme, he is used to eat up space and keep blockers off the linebackers. Okoye on the other hand is better suited for a 4-3, pass rushing scheme. At 6'1 he has a low center of gravity which is very important when trying to stay low and get a push on the inside. He is quick off the line and very strong. His wt varies from 280-300 at the ripe old age of 19. Okoye will be a beast on the inside, he is still growing. O-line help is available in the later rounds, the gap in talent between the 1st and 2nd rounders is not that great. If you look at the gap in talent on the DL, there is a huge difference. I won't even begin to discuss Okoye's abuse of Levi Brown during the Senior Bowl week. Teams draft for need but they also consider the best available talent. As fans we don't want to hear about potential, we want immeadiate results. At #8 d-line will be the best available talent, even if it is not Okoye. Adams would look good in a Texans jersey opposite Mario as well. We made a commitment to defense with Mario last year, we need to get better players around him. But then again it seems most Texan fans love talking about draft busts?
