Default NFL Combine. Opinions?

The NFL combine should not be the sole factor in determining player's potential NFL value. I've seen it time and time again...a player who played exceptional on Saturdays goes and has a sub-par performance at the Combine and, therefore, suffers a big slide in draft position.

The NFL Combine should only consist of lesser-known players, players from Division I-AA, II and III schools. You know...the guys that didn't go to big-name schools, didn't play in 60,000 seat stadiums every Saturday, weren't on ESPN. I'm talking about the players from schools like Appalachian State, Youngstown State, New Hampshire, etc etc....These are the guys that should be invited to the combine, not the guys we've already seen play and know what they can do.

Opinions?

What about physicals, medical exams, interviews, one-on-one face time, if you were getting ready to hire $10,000,000 worth in players wouldn't you want all the answers?

Those things should take place, but not as part of the NFL Combine. Those things should take place when players go for individual workouts with teams.

The Combine is good for those lesser known players. Teams get to look at those player more closely and get to know how they think and stuff. And the player gets the much needed exposure. The Combine imo shouldn't be the make or break deal for a player because I believe a football players worth should be determined on a football field.

Well the kids make that decision for themselves.

If they would stay in school until they graduate then they could play in the Senior Bowl & then the Combine wouldn't be the only thing that scouts have to go on.

I like the system the way it is. The draft is always gonna be a crapshoot, no matter what changes they make.

Well I certainly can't blame these kids for coming out early. If you have a chance to get drafted then you go for it full steam ahead. It's a lucrative opportunity needless to say. I like the system the way it is. I think the NFL does a terrific job of scouting and preparing. But like you said it's still a crapshoot.

So 32 teams should pack up all their staff, medical doctors, xray machines, MRIs, etc and travel to 70 different school pro days? or teams should have to go to the individual expense of flying in the 250 - 300 players on their draft board. This could create some conflicting schedules with 32 teams trying to get 300 players in for testing? Could 300 players vist 32 teams in a month and half. I can hear the GMs & staff complaining now, 16 hours a day for 2 months straight. Whew!

1st off, what are the odds anyone in D2 or D3 schools are even going to make it? Daniel Manning being an obvious exception, but its a stretch to say that a lot of small school prospects even deserve to go. Also, like Texian said, if your about to spend millions on players, don't you want to know everything possible about them? It makes more sense to analyze them inside and out several times instead of quick glancing and making a snapshot judgement. The combine helps out workout warriors and gets the best of those small school prosects noticed and thats good enough for me.
