Default Will Dungy Step Down?

http://www.startribune.com/510/story/980827.html

After his eldest son's suicide last year, I would think Dungy is really considering retirement. There's nothing more to prove and he doesn't have much time left before his other son goes to college.

Why would he leave now? If anything he will probably go as long as Manning will with only a few years difference.

I've got to agree and think he will coach for a long time.

If anything...the death of his son, in my mind, would make him be more interested in remaining a coach. For many reasons.

I heard Bobby Bowden talk about another coach (a friend of his)who coached his whole life and when he finally retired he died. Only a few short months after he retired. Bobby feels that he will have nothing to get up for anymore if he retires...nothing to look forward to...nothing to work for. He feels like if he retires his health will diminish and he will turn out to be like his old friend.

I'd imagine Dungy losing his son has made football an even more important event in his life and that retiring would really leave him unsatisfied and perhaps depressed.

My story about Bobby was to show you how much football REALLY means to these coaches...it's not just a job.

Football is a big part of Dungy's life, but its no more important than his family. He is very close to his son, you may see him roaming the Colts sidelines from time to time. There were reports last year that Dungy's job kept him from helping out his son when he needed it most. You don't think Dungy regrets that?

I don't think that he's going to retire this season. I think he'll keep on coaching as long as Peyton is on the colts.

Dungy has always said he wouldn't coach past 50..seeing as he's 51, I don't think he'll coach much longer.
