I would be highly upset if we took Ginn at 8, we have an excellent wr/te crew. I am pretty flexible at the #8 pick, AD, Alan Branch, LeRon Landry... but not a wide receiver.

Moulds is getting old and may not be THE premeir wr in the NFL but he has served his purpose in taking pressure off of AJ. Maybe look for a wr next year.

Gotta have the foundation first. Ginn Jr. will spread the d. He won't hold the line for three seconds. How deep can he get in 2 seconds ? This is what the Texans have always done. Pick the skill guys before the base is settled. What is that they say about building a house on shifting sands ? I think we've been tring to fix the foundations for six seasons. We havn't got it corrected yet. Now if you goal is to set up the '08 draft, he'll do that in spades.

Absolutely would be peeved. There is no need there. Pick your poison with the passing game (we all have one) - Carr, Oline or playbook. But it is not the WRs in my opinion.

So, your solution then is to reach for an olineman, even if Ginn is rated higher? What olineman is going to be rated ahead of Ginn, other than Thomas, who will be long gone?

I don't get this line of thinking. Take the best player in round 1. You can't go wrong. And, contrary to some in this thread, I couldn't disagree more that we don't need help at the skill positions. We need a standout RB1, we need to groom a good young WR to take pressure of of AJ. And in general, we need playermakers on offense. Ginn fits that description to a tee. I would be delighted to have his playmaking ability on offense and special teams.

That is what Ifigure too, Kubiak says we need offensive playmakers and the guy makes plays and we didn't have many of those this year.

I don't think reaching is the term I would use on a guy who is ranked now in the twelve spot with the eigth pick. Since the senior bowl paractices there is a chance he won't make it to the eigth pick. Is that kinda of a guy a "reach" ? Especailly since we've had six guys through the tackle turnstile in six seasons ? Our intpretations of "reach" are radically different from one another. As are our intrpertations of "need" and "hole". With six OTs though the turnstile, dare I say black hole ? No, you wanna bring everthing together, you bite the bullet and take Brown this draft. Best case, Spencer comes back lock and loaded and takes the left side, Levi to the right. That gives us a bona fide rushing attack. With that, in turn gives us the play atcion pass play and opens the play book back up for Kubiak. Worst case scenario....and I believe the scenario Smith and Kubiack will work from this draft BTW, Spencer won't make it back by August Levi Brown to the left side and Erick to the right. Either case you're covered to make a decent run at being competivtive in '07. I don't think Ginn Jr. or All Day will give us that in '07. Some do. We'll see. But I stand to disagree with the "reach" in your post. How much puss has to ooze from the six year old wound befor we all get "it" ?

Speed wise yes, but Ginn is a far more polished WR prospect. Imagine those two deep ready to run back a kickoff. Pick your poison.

Thats what I was getting at...we dont allow routes to develop as it is now...so a true speedster at WR would be somewhat wasted if we continue to struggle on the OL....AJ is super fast as well...and all he does is run shallow crosses, outs, and slants....rarely tests the DB's deep....and if Mathis is healthy, I think he brings that deep threat...then we have Moulds as an underneath threat with good size...I just think the pick could be used so many other ways to improve the team...

Depending on what the next BPA was...alot of ppl still think Demeco would be a better Will Linebacker than he is in the middle...

I guess there isnt always 1 BPA...and teams would have there draft boards constructed accordingly...Its like if the Colts had Manning and the BPA was a qb....they wouldnt take the qb, theyd take the next BPA

Ginn was a star receiver in a big time program, who has displayed legitimate WR skills, something Mathis still fails to do.

I see Ginn as just a general playmaker... can't have too many of those. He'll turn little dink passes into TDs and there isn't a CB that can keep up with him. Don't love him as a #1 type receiver prospect, but as a guy that can cripple an opposing defense with the big play. He's not polished. He is a converted CB from a football family, so maybe eventually he gets polished and is a legit #1.

He's the type of athlete you find creative uses for and put an emphasis on getting him into space. I think he'd be a great fit in this O and with Andre opposite. Unfortunately, there are tons of needs elsewhere. Andre should be enough of a big play guy for 2007. I just don't see him being the pick... he would make this team better though.

I would not be happy. There should be better, and more needed, players available at 8. Plus, WR's can be found in the later rounds.

I remember particapating in a mock draft a couple years ago (2005) & none other than Joe Texan himself was picking for the Texans & selected Jammal Brown the tackle out of Oklahoma with that 13th pick. you know something he was right, I wish the Texans had done exactly that instead of trading down three spots for Travis Johnson & 3rd (Eric Winston) rd. pick. everyone thought that was too high to take him also, looks pretty good to me now & was a big reason the Saints almost made it to the Superbowl in his 1st year playing LT all the way to the Pro Bowl.

Levi Brown is even a better tackle prospect, so I don't think the 8th pick is that far off the mark

Yeah I'd be pissed if we took Ginn at #8. No way is he the 8th best player in this draft and WR is not in the top 5 of positions we need to address. He'll probably be the 3rd WR chosen after Johnson and Jarrett.

If we really want to look at WRs in the draft I think we should look at the depth of talent available and see who falls. I personally think Steve Smith will be a consistent talent for years to come (overshadowed his entire college career by Keary Colbert, Mike Williams and then Dwayne Jarrett) and someone like Paul Williams (big, fast, mean, loves the middle of the field) could fall to the second day.

Ya know what would make me happy? An offensive lineman on the first day. What a concept.
