Default is it possible to fill in all of our needs?

QB - I think we can all live with Carr for another year, and if needed bring in Plummer this off-season to push or replace Carr...
RB - Adrain Peterson, would be a playmaker at the position, and we would have a solid ground game for years to come, all of our others are average at best...
FB - Solid with Vonta Leach and Jameel Cook...
WR - AJ and Moulds are awesome together, Walter is an average slot reciever, maybe get another deep threat in the later rounds...
TE - I think we are set here, Owen Daniels will be solid for many years if he can stay healthy, our backups are solid...
OL - We need to find a guy that will stay healthy and be solid at the left tackle position, after that we look at a center for future refrence...

DL - We need another solid DE along with Mario, that way we could move Weaver inside, we need a guy that can stop the run and pass rush...
ILB - DeMeco is great and will be for the rest of his career...
OLB - We need to find a guy that can get sacks and pass cover, Greenwood is solid, but Orr is no better than a back-up, we need depth...
CB - Robinson os no better than a number two corner, we need to get an elite corner that will make Robinson become great...
S - We need help in both areas, Glenn Earl is no bueno and Michael Lewis would be a major upgrade and maybe a FS in the draft will help, we need a guys that can cover and stop the run...

K - With more work, he could be more consistant...
P - We need to get a new one because Chad Stanley is going to be gone...

1.8 gone with AP.

One OLT, one center.

One second day pick in '07. One high pick in '08.

Quote:
DL - We need another solid DE along with Mario, that way we could move Weaver inside, we need a guy that can stop the run and pass rush...
ILB - DeMeco is great and will be for the rest of his career......
One DE, One DT.
On the pass rush our will doesn't get there. They need another LB.

Quote:
OLB - We need to find a guy that can get sacks and pass cover, Greenwood is solid, but Orr is no better than a back-up, we need depth...
One Will. One mike or Sam. I believe that Rayns could play Will or Mike.

Quote:
CB - Robinson os no better than a number two corner, we need to get an elite corner that will make Robinson become great......
One front line cover coner. First or second round guy.

Quote:
S - We need help in both areas, Glenn Earl is no bueno and Michael Lewis would be a major upgrade and maybe a FS in the draft will help, we need a guys that can cover and stop the run......
One front line free safty.

Quote:
K - With more work, he could be more consistant...
P - We need to get a new one because Chad Stanley is going to be gone...
so we have One frarchise QB. 1
One punter- 1
RB- 1.8 this year.
Just for arguements sake won't count the punter,or QB. Wishful thinking. Maybe '08 they can fill the rest of the holes. Those are three luxuary picks. Might get the K, Punter with two day two picks and be done with it. But, you're giving up a shot, all be it a long shot, of hitting one of the luxuray holes with a day two pick.

2. DE-1 Major Hole
3. Cover Corner- 1 Major Hole
4. OLT- 1 Major Hole

Left for '08 or free agency this season.

5. C - 1, Major Hole

6. DT-1, luxurary pick
7. FS- 1, Major hole
8. Will or Mike- 1, luxuary pick

I don't care which years they get them, but this list plus the wishful thinking on the francise QB and the upgrades at Kicker/Punter, Will LB, DT, that comes to eleven.

So basicaly, they need a combination of hitting five major needs with two day one picks this year, with taking all day with the 1.8.

That leaves three major holes to fill through free agency... and three more holes if they want to compete in a super bowl in our life time.
My total is ten if we get everything you want. If we hit half of those we'll be doing very well. So again wishfull thinking we draft all day, that leaves four major holes to fill in next years off season. If we hit four with the franchise back, our scouts and staff have earned their oats for the '07 off season.

Default Re: is it possible to fill in all of our needs?

No-

imo we need:
1 a franchise back
2 2/3 new OL staters
3 at least 1 new d-lineman...possibly 2
4 a strongside LB
5 a cb
6 a fs

others will argue qb and ss but imo thats 7 starters we need to find and imo thats too much in 1 off-season....

To answer your original question....I don't think with our salary cap restrictions and draft position, that we can fill all of our needs. If they do, then Kubes and Smith deserve a helluva raise.

A few steps in the direction of "good" would make me a happy season ticket holder.

I think I'd rather see them build more slowly through the draft, rather than mortgage the future of the team with high priced free agents.

Of course we can fill all our remaining holes in this offseason.

FA, & the draft..... good teams use both to build a team.... look around the league, and find me a team that doesn't have FAs at key positions.

We need a LT.... We need a CB, and a LineBaker that can run with a Tight-end.

that's it, that's all.

The Texans can definitely find people to fit into holes. There's no way to guarantee the hole has been filled, though. I thought TJ would fill the Defensive Tackle spot; Kubiak thought Lundy/Gado would fill the running back hole. None of these players have unequivocally answered that they have filled the spot.

On the other hand, I believe that unlike in years past where the Texans seemed to have 10-20 players that absolutely had to be replaced in the offseason, the team doesn't have as strong a need. Sure, it would be great to get that unbelievable left tackle, but is it a need at this point? I'm not so sure the Texans are measuring up kids to be the new left tackle of the franchise.

Any combination of Running Back, Defensive Tackle, Center, Linebacker, Cornerback, or Safety on the first day will advance the level of talent on the team while filling key holes. IMO, this can be accomplished through the draft alone. Six rounds, six players, six positions. However, I am not holding my breath that the Texans will have the awesome recruiting draft they had last year where all six draftees ended up starting at one point during the season.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: I don't think you can fill all our needs in one offseason. We have several holes on our roster and I'd like to see the Texans solidify 2 or 3 positions. That means having good solid starters and having good depth at those positions. This will allow the team to focus on other needs in the following offseason so forth and so on. You also have to take into account the current players on our roster. You have to expect some of our young players like DeMeco and Mario Williams to have a bigger impact on your team. Besides you never know what you'll need from year to year so it's important to build solid depth.

I got this one taged TK. I just posted eleven. How the heck or you going to get eleven guys, two blue chippers and nine contributors in one off season ? Inquiring minds would like to know. They hit five guys they'll be doing very well for this off season. CC and capers made a very big mess on our floor.

I think we're as talented as the NYJets(10-6), the NYGiants(8-8), the KCCheifs(9-7), & the Dallas Cowboys(9-7)..... all play-off teams.

We're as talented as the 49ers who'll probably be in the playoffs in '07. & I know we're as talented as the Jags & the Titans, Buffalo, Miami, Cleveland, & Oakland.

& yes, I think we have a good backfield(not great, but good), I like our RT, & RG, and between McKinney & Hogdon, I like our Centers... CC Brown is not the worst FS I've seen, & yes, I like our DL......

I wouldn't mind an upgrade at all those positions....

But if we are going to have to wait until we have 9 ProBowlers on both sides of the ball, it's going to be a long wait......

I didn't post pro bowlers...I posted two blue chippers and sewven contributors. And they're not going to up grade nine guys in one off season less the kickers and the QB. If Payne and Weigert are gone...lets just say, the ones behind them are not what I consider contributors. That leaves two glaring holes. Your assumption at center and right tackle is a little high in my book. We'll never catch the Colts settling for below NFL parr tallent. Can they live with a few holes sure. Are we going to get to a play off run living with the tallent on the current squad no way Dorthy. Tell Toto you're lost.

& I didn't respond to your post. First we'd have to assume that I agree with you. Should be clear, that I do not agree with what you see as needs, much less major needs.

Fill all the wholes so that we have nothing but the best of the best at every position?? then your post is more right than mine.

Fill all wholes so that we can have a winning season, and possibly sniff the play-offs.... then I stand by my post.

We need a LT, a CB, and a LB that can run with a tight end. That's it.

Payne is gone..... I like Maddox.

Weigart..... may come back, but he'll be on the bench.... I like Winston.

They're in the NFL.... they have NFL talent. They aren't up to your expectations....... whatever you based them on.... but they are in the NFL...... GMs, HCs, OCs, DCs, & a player personnel consultant(Dan Reeves) said they are/were NFL talent.

Dallas got there with Roy Williams & Pat Watkins..... I'll put Roy Williams up there as probably the best run supporting safeties.... but all around, his coverage skills are severely laking.... All around, I don't see him as much better(if any) than Glen Earl.

Joseph Adai & Dominic Rhodes are going to the SuperBowl. It took Cedric Benson & a real close look at blowing his second chance before Thomas Jones looked like a franchise back. IF he'd been here, and Dayne been there, you guys would be drooling for a back like Dayne, and looking to replace Thomas Jones.

IF we get a QB who understands what a three step drop is, or how to take advantage of mis-matches, or read an NFL defense, all our OLinemen will move up two grades.

Our pass defense was better than the Giants, and the Cowboys..... they got into the play-offs with their obvious holes..... We got more sacks than the Colts did.. & they got into the play-offs with their obvious holes.

Our run defense was better than New Orleans, Seattle, NYJets, Philadelphia, & Indianapolis.... despite their holes, and their non-NFL talent, they got to the play-offs(one of the teams is going to the SUperBowl....... two of those teams were in their conference championship games)

Offensively, we were better than........... well, nobody. I don't think Kubiak handled the transition to HC as well as some of the other new coaches... I think he'll do better in '07.

we've got 2 pro bowl multiple probowl recievers..... a tight end, and one of the most clutch slot recievers I've ever seen. If we can find a QB that could use all three of them on any given play, we'll surprise a lot of teams, and once we establish ourselves as a team that will go deep..... Ronnie, CTaylor, Wali & DDW are going to run all over the NFL.

Fix your O-line and you will be a 10times better team. so I say draft an O-line in the first and second round get one good FA and your all set to build on your skill positions, games are won and lost in the trenches.

i never said 9 pro-bowlers either- just good players...take off the rose-tinted glasses and see we're not as good as any of the playoff teams right now...we're not even as talented as most of those average teams you've mentioned..imo we overachieved a bit last yr....

we do not have a good backfield- its decent in certain games and disappears many other times...
and you like our right side and centre- the same line that couldnt hold up for > 2 seconds or run block very well last yr??
cc brown isnt the worst FS you've seen??- well good for you...salaam isnt the worst LT ive ever seen either but that doesnt mean i want him starting again next year
and whille our d-line was decent at stopping the run last yr it wasnt good at pressurising the qb

i know this seems like a very negative post but alot of people need to wake up and see we're not a very good team and see that kubiak- mistakes and all, did a fine job last yr in getting us a 6-10 record...despite falling well short of the expected 13-3

we do not have a good backfield- its decent in certain games and disappears many other times...
and you like our right side and centre- the same line that couldnt hold up for > 2 seconds or run block very well last yr??
cc brown isnt the worst FS you've seen??- well good for you...salaam isnt the worst LT ive ever seen either but that doesnt mean i want him starting again next year
and whille our d-line was decent at stopping the run last yr it wasnt good at pressurising the qb

i know this seems like a very negative post but alot of people need to wake up and see we're not a very good team and see that kubiak- mistakes and all, did a fine job last yr in getting us a 6-10 record...despite falling well short of the expected 13-3

Since you're repeating yourself, I'll repeat myself.

yes, we are as good as the teams I mentioned.

Yes, I like our backfield.

Yes, CC Brown is a fine safety...

Yes, Ephraim Salaam was never meant to start 14+ games....

Yes we still have work to do, but we have enough talent on this team to have been in the play-offs in '07.... will we be lucky enough to get to the playoffs in '08?? who knows...... maybe another 9-7 team will go to the play-offs in '08, and I think we can be that team with one offseason.
