I don't see how anyone would think that our secondary isn't our biggest need.

Specifically, the FS position on our team is absolutely atrocious...CC Brown would not be a starter on ANY other NFL team (as a FS).

Id say FS and CB followed by O-line, however its hard to really judge the Oline because of all the injuries. If Spencer comes back that gets significantly better, although I would love to see us add some promising youngsters like last year.

Very true.

Me too - particularly a C with a little flexibility. And one or two mid-to-late-20's veterans at guard and tackle.

I say a good runningback. A good RB can set up the passing game even for a QB like carr.

DB, S, RB, DL, OL. I think you can switch the last two around as you see fit. Obviously OL is low because I think Spencer will be ready by training camp. Past that we need depth all over the place.

I dont really care about postion anymore. I just want an IMPACT player. A gamebreaker. A guy on offense that can get it into the endzone from anywhere. Or, a guy on defense that can take the ball away and even score.

Not one team is afraid of the Texans on EITHER side of the ball. We need somebody that is feared. Somebody you have to gameplan against.

Default Re: Biggest Need?

Here are the positions that I think the Texans need to look at during the Draft and why. They are not necessarily listed in area of importance.

Running Back - IMO, this was the single worst area for the Texans last year. The running game was deplorable. The good side is that it is the one area where a single solid draft pick can fix a lot of things. For that reason, I see the Texans taking either Adrian Peterson or Marshawn Lynch with the #8 pick. A running game will bring consistency and balance to the offense.

Center - From what I hear, Spenser is recovering well and likely to return as the starting left tackle. Winston will be playing his second year at right tackle. The Texans have two capable guards in Weary and Pitts. But they don't have a center. Flanagan, who was brought onto the Texans for his personality, veteran status, and pro-bowl years, struggled last year when he was not injured. Hodgdon looked lost the few times he was out there last season. The Texans' last hole in the line is a center. I like Doug Datish from OSU as a second- or third-rounder. I see the season starting McKinney at Center with the drafted center switching out plays until he's comfortable starting for the team.

Defensive Tackle - Maurice Jones-Drew, Larry Johnson, Deuce McAllister, Reggie Bush (!), LaDamian Tomlinson, Michael Vick, Cadillac Williams...Somebody has to stop them because they are all on next year's schedule. I doubt TJ is the guy to do it. The Texans could decide to take Alan Branch instead of a running back (assuming he's there at #8), and I would not be surprised or think it's a bad decision. The problem is that I think the Texans will take a Running Back in the first, and I think it will be slim pickings after the first or second round. So this could be the second-rounder, or the free-agency acquisition.

Cornerback/Safety - The Texans have suffered greatly the past few years because they didn't have a defensive secondary. Along with the running game, defensive secondary is the biggest weakness, and I don't think a new DE will fix it. The talent just begs to be upgraded here. On the plus side, there are a lot of cornerbacks and safeties this year, so the Texans should be able to pick a decent one up in the later rounds. However, the thing to consider again is that the Texans need that DT. And although the AFC South started as a pass-happy division with Leftwich, McNair, and Manning, this year changed. Insert Vince Young, remove Leftwich. Peyton struggled. As much as the Texans desperately need this, I see it falling to a later round. Third - Sixth.

Linebacker - If Demeco improves, he will be one of the best linebackers in the AFC and in the league. I think the Texans are betting on this, as there are bigger needs than another linebacker. I see this as another second-day pick, but it could also be addressed during free agency if defensive tackle is not.

I don't think the Texans will trade for more picks at this point. They have a tight budget this year, and they need two to three impact players, with others there more for depth now.

I left it a bit open (i.e., linebacker in the "second day," center/defensive tackle in second round) because this is where I think BPA will factor in. I don't have specific picks yet (except for #8) because we have yet to hear from the combine and Free Agency, which will affect the Texans' selections.

First round, I am happy to say that we can't go wrong with who we get, as long as we get the best player available. We can truely draft any top talent and it will help us out.

I voted linebacker because I think picking up a top outside linebacker in the second round will be our most crucial pick. Rufus Alexander is my pick and I think he will be just like Demeco.

A linebacker would still help with the running game, but IMO, not as much as a good defensive tackle. It may come down to BPA between those positions, but if a linebacker isn't picked in the second, I think it will fall to the second day.

pass defense. And I say this becuase we horribly need a pass rush and better secondary. Pass defense just happens to encompass all of that.

Secondary is the biggest need, but that doesn't mean it should be addressed first. You can still get a corners and safeties in the 2nd-4th rounds or FA. The first should be about get BPA in a need position, which is an extensive list for the Texans (OT, RB, QB, CB, FS, SLB, DT, DE, C).

JMO, but first and foremost the Texans need to be able to run the ball and defend the ball. A good secondary can't do that.

Goodness. There are so many needs on this team that you could pick just about anywhere and upgrade with a rookie.

But when pushed, I would say running back. I am non optimistic about the health of the player formerly known as DD, and I don't think the rest of the backs make you feel comfortable for 2007.

The offense will be non-functional unless there is a respectable run game.

I am surprised that the Texans passing game did as well (and I am using that term loosely) as it did this year with such a nadir running game.
