If practices are open to the public at Reliant they start tomorrow (Monday). They will be practicing Monday - Thursday, with a walk thru on Friday (see schedule). NFL scouts will be there. Going to practices will give you more info about players than seeing the game. It would nice if a couple of draft experts living in Houston could visit practices and give us report on the players.

If practices are open to the public I might drive in for a day. If you want to go to the game they still have good seats for $25.

Here is the reply I received from the Shrine Bowl regarding practices being open to the public:

The plan was for the practices to be open, assuming the weather would cooperate and we would be able to practice outside. However, with the weather as it looks now we will be practicing inside the Texans practice bubble and due to lack of room, the practics in there will be closed. If we can practice outside on Wed, or Thurs., the practices will be open.

Good to hear. If it sounds like practices will be outside later in the week I'll try to stop by somewhere in there and pass along some observations on some of the guys. Here are the main guys I'm interested in:

Willis Barringer, S, Michigan - possible 2nd day pick that could be a decent upgrade at S.
Brandon Frye, OT, Virginia Tech - sounds like a pretty good fit for the ZBS, could be an option in the 4th round.
Dan Bazuin, DE, Central Michigan - pretty solid pass rusher and decent against the run, will be good to see him against more solid competition this week, could be a 3rd round pick.
Baraka Atkins, DE, Miami - an athletic DE that is solid against the pass and run, would be a consideration in the 3rd round, definitely 4th round or lower.
Paul Williams, WR, Fresno - very fast WR, will be nice to see how his skills compare to others and how he plays against good competition, could end up beind drafted late in the 1st day.
Desmond Bishop, LB, California - pretty solid overall LB, would be a great 2nd day pick, could end up in the 3rd round.
John Wendling, S, Wyoming - sounds like a pretty good player, could make it into the low 2nd round, more likely the 3rd or high 4th.
Michael Johnson, S, Arizona - pretty athletic, decent in coverage, could be a decent FS option in the 2nd day but I'd prefer to take one higher.
Jon Cornish, RB, Kansas - I haven't seen any of him yet but I've heard good things from some people, would be interested to see how he plays this week.
Brian Robison, DE, Texas - looked pretty solid this year, would like to see more of him. Could be a decent option in the 4th, maybe 3rd round.
Ikaika Alama-Francis, DE, Hawaii - likewise I haven't seen him play much but I've heard good things, sounds like a good pass rusher.

This is the best we have to offer the NFL. Most likely a 5th rounder or so. Produced well consistently against the Big 12. I posted an entire thread on him.

--The Texans have spent much of the past week in their practice facility watching young draft prospects participate in the East-West Shrine Game. The college All-Star game is being held at an NFL facility for the first time, and it has proved to be extremely convenient for the Texans' staff.

New Texans general manager Rick Smith, along with almost every assistant Texans coach and the scouting staff, has watched the majority of the practices. Offensive line coach John Benton and assistant defensive backs coach Martin Bayless are part of the Shrine Game's coaching staff.

When the game ends, Smith said he plans to take advantage of what Benton and Bayless learned working with the young talent. He will also be making phone calls to Shrine Game head coaches Don Shula and Dan Reeves.

"We exhaust all resources," Smith said. "And certainly if you have a relationship with people, like we have with both of those coaches. Well be calling them."...

expect the focus (Texans) to be on players who go undrafted that address need, like linemen, lb & db's.

here's a plug for QB prospect John Beck BYU. check out his pocket awareness, leadership, throwing accuracy/strength & mobility.

also check out Mario Henderson LT FSU (East) I really think he has potential could go higher than some people think maybe 4th rd.
