"DENVER (Jan. 9, 2007) -- The Denver Broncos fired defensive coordinator Larry Coyer, nine days after a once-promising season sputtered to a close with five losses in seven games. Coyer oversaw a defense that started this season by becoming the first team in 64 years to not allow a touchdown over the first 11 quarters."

Talk about a scapegoat. His defense fell from the rankings because they were always on the field when Cutler took over for Plummer.

I saw this yesterday. My first thought was "I wonder if he'd be interested in coming here?"

It took quite a while for someone to float this idea - the board must be slipping. Way to pull out the save.

incase it's of interest in bringing him here, coyer was 1st in defense last year (until cutler took over), 15th overall in 2005 (going 13-3), 4th overall in 2004, and 3rd overall in 2003. this guy's got a pretty good track record, and with kubiak in charge would make an obvious choice to out rick smith. coyer plays the simple but aggressive defense that ray rhodes worked on ... he'd be a very legitimate candidate for kubiak's 4-3 of the texans' future.

I agree Rich's D had some problems early on but I think Kubes will stick with him because if nothing was improving our defense definitely did with strong performances against playoff teams (Indy& Pats) still in the hunt as we speak...

Hey, statistics speak for themselves.
This guy was nothing more than a scapegoat for Denver's collapse, which was far more of an offensive collapse than it was anything defensively. If nothing else, he can help improve this team's secondary play. Champ Bailey has finally begun to fully live up to his promise since going to Denver. Hey, why not? Can't hurt. |

deffinately couldnt hurt, and i simply love the way he blitzes. there's no disguise or "way too late" or "fill a zone" blitzing ... his qb rushes look more like punt block units. if by some way we got coyer, i'd resurrect an old topic and look to see what dwayne slay is up to. he is exactly what coyer used with john lynch ... a slow safety with a natural instinct for finding & destroying whoever has the ball.

Denver Broncos fired defensive coordinator Larry Coyer. Think Kubiak may look at him for here? Any word on their relationship in the league?

We could only be so lucky. But I'm sure our FO feels obligated to be dedicated to our current defensive coordinator, Mr. Happy, so we won't be making a change.

Coyer was not a scapegoat in Denver. His defense fell apart at the end of the year. We couldn't stop any good teams. Everytime we turned around it seems like Peyton Manning was scoring another touchdown on us. Coyer doesn't make in game adjustments. Once a team found our weeknesses they were able to exploit them all day. You guys just be lucky he didn't come over here.
Also our offense opened up more when Cutler took over. He was a much better QB than Plummer. Cutler actually could drive us down the field and score. Cutler and Marino are the only QBs to ever start their first 4 games of their career with multiple tds per game. You guys better hope Plummer doesn't come here. He'd be worse than Carr. |
