I know there are a few good ones that you can buy subscriptions to, like ourlads.com, and mel kiper on ESPN.
What do you people think of these, and are they worth it? What is the cost of these?

cant speak for ourlads, but you can buy the espn insider subscription and have access to kiper's stuff through espn's site. it's pretty squared away, but i have found you can get alot of same info from site's like nfl draft countdown (closer to the draft), like scouting reports and expected round that the player will be taken in.

Mel Kiper is just a part of the ESPN Insiders package. I particulary like the Scouts, Inc. that gives you access to all the player profiles and rankings. In addition you also get a copy of ESPN Magazine. I think it cost $79.00 per year. It is well worth it for me as much as I enjoy the Draft and all things leading up to it.

I like the ones that are free.
Our lads, you've always got to remeber with him he's grading based purely on tallent levels. Not where he thinks they will go in the draft. He's the closest thing out there to Joel Bushbaum. Kiper is pretty good also. His wart is he'll lock onto a guy like a bull dog. And won't let go no matter what. Always fun with him to see his board and try to figgure out which guy he's locked in on.

Just wait for Goselin with the Dallas Morning News to start his draft coverae. Not only is it the best, it's also free!

Since Dan Shonka took over Ourlads, the quality of their products has nosedived. They are a waste of money imo. I bought their draft guides for three years -- '03 and '04 were great but then they had the management shakeup and the '05 and '06 products were terrible. The player profiles are written in amateurish style and the aesthetic value of the guide went way down - different sized fonts on different pages - really tacky stuff. Not to mention the late delivery.
This surprised me a bit at first because Shonka used to be an NFL scout and appeared to be well connected but when SR 610 had him on the radio down here a few times, it became obvious his knowledge favors the Big Ten and midwest region players (I think that was his territory). He swore (after the Rose Bowl) that Vince Young would never make it as a NFL QB and should move to WR, and he also said that Chad Greenway was the best LB in the draft last year (over Hawk)... DeMeco wasn't in the conversation per him. He had VY going in the second round to someone. Their depth charts/player history are the best thing that they have going thanks to Jim Sabo and I miss having that resource available for some of the stuff I do, but they're not worth the price of a subscription all of a sudden after being free for so many years. ourlads.com is, IMO, pretty poor at predicting things.
I use: The Huddle Report - 9.95/year ESPN Insider - I want to say 39.99/year GBN Report - free NFL Draft Blitz - don't remember, but not that much NFL Draft Countdown - free SI's exclusive thing (I forget the name) ... and the official (failing that, the largest) message boards for each team. |
