i'm not a big college fan and have watched fewer games this year than last. yall that know me know i'd almost always take an O-lineman first, but this year we can address our biggest hole on defense with a solid pick ... that hole being a centerfielder. i'll be watching their bowl games to help my judgement, but these are the guys that i hope the texans are targeting with our first pick. especially since kubiak and his former denver staff are known for taking defensive talent & athleticism first ... offensive uglies second.
my question is, who are reggie nelson (fla) and laron landry (lsu)? i've seen maybe a game from each and a couple of highlights but i dont know enough about either to make an accurate decision on either one. how do they compare to eachother? who in the NFL are they comperable to? what are each's strengths & weaknesses?

They both play essentially the same style. They're better in coverage than traditional safeties, which is exactly what the Texans would need.
I would personally go with Landry. He's been a four year starter in the best conference in the country. Nelson plays in the same conference, but this is his first year as a full time starter. In addition, this is only his second year at Florida, having gone juco before that. I would worry about Nelson doing it over the long haul. You know what Landry is capable of. |

I like Landry a lot better, he is much more solid in tackling and run support from what I've seen.

Nelson is a wirey and fiesty player. He had more big hits than any DB in the country I think. He has better speed than Landry and makes more plays on the ball. Landry may be as solid as they come, but Nelson has preformed at the same level if not higher this year. Nelson is still getting better and hasn't peaked. In terms of tallent, they are pretty much the same. In terms of who projects better to the NFL, almost every scout will tell you Nelson.

I think Nelson has the potential to be one of the best FS in the NFL.

6 one way, half a dozen the other.
I personally lean toward Landry. I think he is the safer pick. Nelson has the potential to be one of the best safties, but I am tired of drafting potential; want a sure solid player, which I think is Landry.

Honestly I think they are both safe picks.
Nelson seems to cover more ground and absolutely levels receivers...they don't even have to have the ball. If a guy is standing around he is going to get leveled. Landry seems more disciplined. He also seems more of a natural leader. They are both very good at their position. |

After watching the Alamo Bowl I was reminded just how good Michael Griffin is. He is extra special with all his blocked kicks and special teams play.

Im going to go with Nelson. I like his fire, his nastiness and I think he plays faster. Ive heard him compared with Ed Reed, and thats all I need to hear.

i like nelson, but i think we need landry. a real leader in the secondary. demeco leads the LB corps while landry takes charge of the secondary. however, if the texans think revis is better for us and tests better, id go with him.

yeah thats what i am also thinking, i think nelson is more of a playmaker that might make some mistakes cause he trys to make plays, and landry seems more consitant, but i'd rather have reggie nelson, we need playmakers that can change the game with one play
