Shawne Merriman added some thoughts of his own when responding to criticism from fellow NFL Defensive Player of the Year candidate Jason Taylor, telling the North County Times, "I sent (Taylor) a 'Lights Out' hat and a 'Lights Out' T-shirt and a bag of popcorn so he can watch us in the playoffs."

I don't see why steroids are taken so lightly in the NFL. If I was a marginal NFL player, I have no reason NOT to do it. If its a potential millions in earnings, a month of minimum salary would mean nothing.

Crazy, cocky and drug addled still wins in the NFL I see. What did you all think? People in their right mind go killer crazy at kickoff every Sunday? Every team that wants to win it all needs a crazy fool like this guy or a guy like the crazy LB in NE that blew a blood vessel in the brain a couple of years back. Sure sign he's a player if he's having aneurisms out there. Some guys don't care about tomorrow. Those guys often lose in life from the long view but more often than not win in the NFL. What are you going to do? Discourage it?

This is exactly like the MLB where fans paid to see the long ball and then feigned outraged to find out their hero gorillas were juicing.

Maybe he really doesn't care about the DPOY. Taylor obviously does. Merriman is just saying "hey hold on to that DPOY because thats all you have."
