It would seem Branch would help Mario out and allow him to not be double teamed. Spending another 1st round pick on a d-lineman would be hard to swallow to most fans though (It's obvious Kubiak isn't here to win a popularity contest, which I applaud). I think it will depend on who we pick up in free agency. If we get a DT like Redding or Sands in FA then we might pick a corner or FS. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Branch would be the bpa so thats the direction you take. all address needs (DT Branch, FS Landry, CB Revis).

they would make a good draft board for the Texans 1st pick in this order

1. Branch
2. Revis
3. Landry

Contrary to what many here believe, Travis Johnson was playing well when he was injured. Last year, he was a rookie and playing in the 3-4, which he was not familiar. This year he was stepping up in the 4-3 when he got hurt. Yet people are ready to can him after only 8 games playing in the 4-3 and playing well. I am dumb founded when people say get rid of him under the circumstances. With Weaver and Johnson at DT Branch does not offer tremendous upgrade. When I say Lee Evans, Regis and Landry become huge. The 1st LE TD shame on the CB, the 2nd LE TD shame on the FS.

I see what I see. If Mario is being double teamed, where are TJ's nimbers ? I don't mind the guy being on the roster. I mind the guy being on the roster and being overpaid for what he brings to the table. There has been no appreciable drop off in the DT play since he went out. And don't tell me there's not a dimes bit of difference in tallent between Branch and TJ.

From what I saw, I thought Travis Johnson looked TERRIBLE! it seemed everytime i watch him, he just got pushed away like a child. After watching the street FA's come in and play (Maddox, etc...), I'd bet they cut Travis Johnson and just take the hit. If I'm not mistaken, I think he had like 7 tackles through 8-9 games or something like that - but it was REALLY bad. I thought TJ was going to be a player, and he may yet be, but I'm not sure if mentally, he's toughest jerky in the package.

You see what you see. I see that TJ never should have been drafted for a 3-4 tackle. He was out of position. He was getting bad press in camp and probably deserved it. As the season started and progressed TJ was playing well and getting recognition from Kubiak in his pressers. The 1st 3 games this year the D did not know what they were doing, giving up close to 500 yds each game. Smith got them turned around and it wasn't until the last 3 or 4 games that the D really started coming together. That might be why there was no apprecianble drop off. TJ was out by then. I would just like to see what he can do with a full year in the 4-3 before relagating him to the high paid bench backup. I think it is smart, fair and wise not tying up cap money in two top 10 drafted DTs.

if I'm not mistaken Weaver is going in for surgery next week, his timetable for a full recovery is 4-6 months. also he is best used as the strongside DE I doubt they will be able to use him inside after this injury. so that leaves the Texans with Payne who might be finished plus is more of a 3-4 NT, Travis Johnson as a the one gap DT (that does not require double teams) was drafted to play the 3-4 as a two gap tackle. then after that good serviceable jouneyman tackles. in summary the inside is soft so teams can game plan Mario with double teams & stunts. there is not a position on this team that requires more attention than solidifying the interior of the defensive line, otherwise the Texans are wasting the chance for their 1st pick & #1 overall pick of the NFL in 2006 to excell. right now I'm so sick & tired of Vince this Reggie that there is nothing I want more than to see Mario Williams shine just look @ the talent Mario had last year (NC State) it helps

I honestly didn't read all the posts in the thread.

to answer the original question.

1. Revis
2. Landry
3. Branch

1. Revis is the best DB in the draft and doubles as a top PR man. Good size and speed. Underclassmen who will be a great one.

2. Landry is as solid as they come at a position of HUGE need. Would help our secondary the most, but is not BPA.

3. Contrary to what beerlover said, Branch is not BPA. Revis would be BPA in this case. Branch takes too many plays off and has yet to show that he warrents where he is projected to be picked. No doubt he will be a solid player, but I woulnd't spend top 20 on him. I don't think he would help as much as advertised. I also can't advocate spending another 1st rounder on a d-linemen. Branch does not have a top motor but does have top size. I would take Okoye in the 2nd or Mebane in the 3rd/4th instead of Branch top 10.

nice post beerlover. Yeah what he said. Well all I'll say is you've got Reevis rated higher than I do. I want to over pay to shore up the rush defense. And you want to over pay for a smurf corner who'll have trouble with bigger recievers...and also happens to return punts. I can get that in Ross in the second or third a whole lot cheaper. Just me. I like my reach better. Bust factor is lower.

Of those three, I like Landry.

Branch does not penetrate. If we get a DT, we need one that will get penetration.

Revis isn't my favorite CB, but I think we need a CB more than a DT or FS.
