Default Moving Mario

While this was obviously not working towards the beginning of the season, and while it would be pointless to start doing it again now(end of the season, and the bad foot), this is something I wouldn't mind seeing more often next season. He's more expereinced now. He has a lot more snaps under him. Babin hasn't been doing to bad at DE either. I wouldn't mind seeing Peek TJ Mario Babin every now and then. Opposing offenses ARE game planning for Mario. Wouldn't things be more difficult if they had no idea where he was going to play? All this being said, I have very little football knowledge, am bored, and just kicking around ideas. Thoughts?

Well you're certainly in the correct place Ollie. You're agurment has me thinking they'll take the pressure off of Mario by placing the wide body from Big Blue next to him.

Mario...Branch...Warm body...Weaver. Third and long bring in either Peak or Babs off the bench move Weaver inside. Keep 'em coming...you're just as correct as the rest of us.

Joedinkle might be right about him being able to do better now he understands the system better.... whatever works has got to be the approach in my opinion.... and I'd give anything a go to see if it makes the team better.

Move Mario to LE, N.D. Kalu to RE, and make Peek a DT. I tried this in Madden 07, and it worked well against the run. Then again, it's just a game, but it worked.

Peek is no more than a situational pass rusher. He would get creamed inside on every single play.

Explain how it worked on Madden, then!

Depends on what you call "not working"....

The problem with Mario, is that he is not the sack specialist every body wants him to be.

Physically, he's a beast...... He's got a motor that won't quit..... & he's got a good nose for the ball...... then he's like 19.... 20 years old??

Mario is a much better football player than he is a sack specialist. But that is why we drafted him. He's a very good football player who could be one of the better sack specialist this league has ever seen.

And this is exactly what I'm getting at. Super Mario is a monster. Why should he just give the LT hell? Let him wear down the entire O-line through the course of the game. Imagine having Mario rough up the Tackle, and then putting in Babin or Peek on that Tackle. They're not the specimen that Mario is, but the Tackle will be worn out from dealing with Mario. The D-line as a whole will benefit from it.

I was listening to the draft choices earlier this year on sirius satelite radio and they spoke of all the top choices. of all the choices the doctors had all agreed that Mario williams was the best, with VY coming in a close second, Reggie Bush didn't come close and they had mentioned he probably shouldn't play b/c of knee troubles. mario will hopefully do something soon, just seems he needs to get healthy and get more passionate, no matter what position he is put at

I think the staff wanted to move him around at the beginning of the season. He is an absolute beast in practice during the week. Once in the game though, he became more concerned with not making a mistake, than making a play. We forget that he's a young rookie...

The coaches decided to leave him at one position, remove all the thinking, let the athletic ability to shine, with the hopes that his "during the week" play would transfer to Sundays. It has. Mario is gaining confidence each and every week. Opposing offenses now have to account to him on every play.

I believe next year we'll see him moving around on the line again, looking for the weak link on the opposing O Line. When that happens, you'll see the sack and tackle numbers go up, and the pro bowl selections....

What did you guys think of Mario's play today? The FF was great as was the tackle for loss(i tihink that was the Colt's 2nd offensive play). He did look explosive at times, I recall him running over the tackle at one point, however this was early in the game(maybe the Colt's 2nd possession) It seems he's able to play well to start, and then tapers off(foot?) What do you guys think?

Yea it looked like he was out of the play by indy's right tackle when mario forced the fumble from the back. then was on the ground crawling for it...very athletic play. I did see him get double teams a lot as well. which i guess is a good sign....did they not send demeco in on many blitzes? I was pleased with mario today...and demeco was all over the place yet again.

When we first played the colts they interviewed dwight freeney on espn.com and he said that mario is a freak of nature. That we should leave him at one spot because once he gets good enough he could dominate that postion. So I don't know why we would move him around. Maybe other people on the d-line but leave him in his spot. Let him get better at one thing not 3 different things. I mean most people arn't very good intill they're 27 and on because they have to get good at one postion. So you figure unless he plans on playing intill he is 40. he'll never get good at any of those postions.

Mario got foot problems right now. I think that's why he tends to fade late. I think his progress from August to now has been very encouraging. He looked so stiff and unremarkable early in the year. However, you can see since October, a number of times when he can really dominate an Olman. I'm very encouraged with his improvement. Next year, if he's healthy, I think it will be a blast to watch him.

I just love it when Mario slams an opposing tackle to the ground. Next I want to see a quick swim or spin move.

I'm also hoping that he learns some moves pretty soon. I think between him being a rookie, the foot, and his physical strength, he's relying alot on the bull rush. I have a feeling he'll learn some stuff this off season and put it to use next season.

I'm all of moving him around the DL. But he has to get comfortable doing it. Work you magic Texans. Because if Mario is moving around, then the Defenses won't be able to contain him as well.

I'm watching NFL gameday right now.... Dione & Mooch just went over a very good point about defense.

They were talking about how the Colts Defense is built to protect a lead...... if they don't get the lead, if they are playing from behind, there defense leaves a lot to be desired...... see->Ron Dayne getting 150 yards on 30 carries.

I think this is a good point, and something all the "Mario Haters" need to remmeber. They look at Mario & Babin, and say,"he's not a dominating pass rusher" which is true for the most part. But they are both more complete DEs(IMHO) than Dwight Freeney. They contain well, & they manage good pressure on the QB.

Both players are going to get better. Babin is only a third year player.... this year is the first year he's played in a 4-3. Mario of course is a rookie.... and he is playing hurt. They are going to get better against the run, and the pass, and they are going to help us win a lot of games.
