Default Another new offense next year ?

With Troy Calhoun taking the Air Force head coach position, does that leave our Texans having to learn a new Offense again next year? Or will we run the same system? I heard McLain say that Sherman will probably become our OC if he does not take a HC position next year. Your thoughts...

Kubiak runs the offense. Richard Smith runs the Defense. We lost the guy who helps Kubes call the offensive plays on game day. If he wants another, they'll be stoming the doors at Kirby Dr. to get in. The play calling ain't the problem. the play calling hasn't been the problem in five years. We're still seaching for five guys to run the bloody plays properly.

I hope you are talking about the oline. That has been the major problem and will continue to be until a) the Texans get some talent there that stays healthy, b) the Texans have some consistancy in the bloking schemes and c) the Texans find five guys who can act as a cohesive unit. That all comes first with drafting the right guys, but also finding an OC that continues with the same offensive system. I hope the Texans stick with the zone blocking long enough for the o-line to learn the dance.

"The play calling ain't the problem."

I think you'd get a lot of disagreement on this statement, because it has been a 'thorn' in the side of many people.

We have a tendency to base our play calling on what we think we 'can't' do, instead of 'learning' from our mistakes and repetition and 'expecting' improvement.

If Troy Calhoun was that pivital in the offensive scheme of things, then we aren't loosing much, are we? Kubiak calls the offensive shots and I think the OC is merely Kubiaks assistant.

It'll be Sherman who is the new OC.

I was not a fan of the staff Kubiak brought in and harangued that he had to have Sherman or we were in trouble. I just am not so certain that this is a match made in heaven either with the current personnel, lack of expereince on the staff and a Frankenstein offensive philosophy - "Mmmm! Fullback good! Five wide, bad!

I still cannot believe that we traded Gado for Morency. It is as if Casserly still knew the password to execute this transaction or did a mind meld with Smith.

KT,
I agree with you. I think Kubes was looking at available staff for a quick fix, since this was his first year at the helm. If he is intelligent, and he impresses me as such, He will take his time and look for assistants that will fit his plan for the long term.

As some of us know, the OC and DC have several more important responsibilities than just calling the plays.

I am one of those that has problem with the play calling... it has improved this year under Kubiak a little more ballsy but still I think we can be a bit more adventurous.

Kubiak also had a distinct disadvantage because he could not look to bring in staff till so late in the year. He was on the team that went to the AFC Championship team last season, and therefore had to wait until he was out of the playoffs to begin recruiting coaches. This probably hurt his staff recruitment.

Another new offense next year?

I hope so. I'm tired of two years of passes that travel farther side to side than downfield.

A running game that is ineffective for very large chunks of time has also gotten a little tiresome.

Do y'all really think Sherman will take over? I was thinking he may be out if a HC job is open, like the one in NY or possibly AZ.

If we are getting a new OC, does this mean Carr gets next year and the year after that to learn the system and be tested as a quarterback? Just curious.

He may get that time regardless.
