Why would the Texans make a change when Stanley is due for Free Agency this year?

It's not as if there's a lot of hugely meaningful games left in the season.

hey man. i am just seeing some opportunities to improve our ball club go by the wayside. yeah, its just the punter but why not improve a presently weak position when you supposedly will do anything to improve the franchise. Punter is a weakness on our team. Spend a little money and the weakness is gone. What use is money if you dont spend it. Last time I checked, the Patriots are pretty damn frugal and they saw it as an opportunity to improve a weakness on their team....

are we supposed to draft a punter like Sepulveda from Baylor? I love the guy's leg but that doesnt mean I want to spend a draft pick on a punter. fix what you can through Free Agency and build depth through the draft.

The real reason though is that Kubiak is already catching too much flak on this board for signing ex-broncos.

The guy's an original Texan, for better or for worse, I say you let him play out the last two weeks of his contract. It's hardly a huge sacrifice to make.

And why would a player who can land a spot on a playoff team come to a team that's been eliminated from the playoffs? Maybe if we offered to cut him after week 17 so a playoff team could maybe sign him ... but why not just sign with them in the first place?

The Patriots started the season with Josh Miller as punter, but signed Ken Walter [stats] for their Nov. 26 against Chicago when Miller was lost for the year to a shoulder injury. Walter punted four games, but was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday with a foot injury.
The Patriots worked out veteran Sean Landeta and practice squad punters Danny Baugher and Tom Malone before settling on Sauerbrun.

Wow. How could we pass up on this Sauerbrun guy? This sounds exactly like the type of player the Texans go after regularly.

don't read too much into the semantics of that quote. todd has been to multiple Pro Bowls and has one of the strongest legs in the game.

Oh, I understand that. Sauerbrun's been around a while. I'm just saying, if a team like the Pats needed a punter and saw fit to try everyone else before settling on Sauerbrun, maybe there are some issues that aren't readily apparent by some newspaper article. If this were the Raiders, Cards, or Browns, maybe I'd ignore that little tidbit.

Sauerbun is a hell of a punter, but I don't think we are after a "hell of a punter"....I think we are after 'good kids'.
