I've heard a lot of talk about replacing Carr. Hell I'll be the first to admit I'm not in love with the kid. Never was though but as it stands he's what we got.
My question to all of you is....is it worth setting the franchise back 2-3 years to train a rookie qb? Even bringing in a vet ala plummer doesn't mean we will compete any better. Thoughts........

What if we bring in a new QB? What are we going to do? Lose?

ANSWER: IT WON'T SET THE TEAM BACK. THE TEAM IS ALREADY A TERRIBLE TRAIN WRECK AND CARR IS A BIG PART OF THAT. A TALENTED ROOKIE QB WOULD BE AN IMPROVEMENT OVER WHAT WE'VE GOT. |

The question is: Can we get better faster with a new rookie QB or with Carr?
Frankly I don't know, but it might be better for Carr to move on. If Carr does leave I say the franchise failed him much more than he failed the franchise. It's a shame to see so much potential go to waste here and possibly be successful somewhere else. Take a look at Harrington. He has won 5 out of his last 7 and has resurrected his career. Look at Detroit, they are worse than before. If we get rid of Carr we may have to take one step back to take two steps forward.

We don't need Carr. Here's what we do. We take a QB, preferably in the 2nd or 3rd round(Brohm, Kolb, Russel, or Smith) and play Sage. Groom the Rookie for at least half a season, and then when Gary thinks he's ready, put him in. Sage will be enough to at least keep us where we've been, but i personally think Sage will be an improvement.

How big of contract would getting plummer entail? How much money would we lose by getting rid of contract? How far would that set us back?

Whatever we do... lets get a few more starting offensive linemen out for the season before we make any decisions. Oh, might as well throw in an inconsistent running game. That should do it.

its a stupid idea... brady quinn doesn't fit the scheme too well and honestly im not impressed with him that much (and I am seriously the biggest notre dame fan ull meet...so its hard for me to say that). He just doesn't win the big game. Out of all the QBs that went out last year I will say he would be equivalent to Leinart. He will take a little time to grow...just becuase he ran an nfl scheme doesn't mean he's gone against an nfl defense (except when he goes against lsu at lsu in his bowl game lol...).
Aside from Quinn I don't see it possible getting a QB equivalent to Carr's talent level. I would rather test Carr behind a good offensive line next season then get rid of him and add "QB" to our long list of fixes. If he does horrible again next year...than lets address it the following year, right now I think there is a bigger hole, literally, at our Left Tackle position. Becuase it's been 5 years and our only hope at left tackle retired a while back. |

No matter who we draft, our O-line will probably still not be very good next year. Linemen need experience too.

After hundreds of sacks in his first few years as a pro, Carr has been conditioned to react in ways that are detrimental to being a solid QB. I don't dislike him, and have never been a 'Carr hater'. I just call it like I see it, and he's not responding to situations the way most QBs do.
That being said, keeping him as our unconditional starter will set this team back 2-3 years. So it's better to develop a young guy under Kubiak and move Carr, using a journeyman QB in the meantime while we work on beefing up our o-line and setting up a consistent running game. It's not Carr's fault, but he is what he is at this point. |
