Default Texans need to switch back to the 3-4

next year. when Seth returns, Williams/Payne/Weaver or draft a rookie NT in the 3rd/4th rds. this would allow the Texans to trade down & still draft the best corner available & pick up another 2nd/3rd pick to address more holes. I would then move Dunta Robinson to FS. so that would leave Faggins & rookie (Leon Hall) as your corners using Dunta's aggressiveness & excellent run support to spy & shutdown the middle. DeMeco could play the weakside OLB & combination of Peek/Babin strongside with Morlan/Wong/Orr/Polk rotating in the middle. I like to keep Glen Earl as the starting SS. CC Brown gives the Texans experience & depth.

with the two 2nd rd. draft picks the Texans could look @ QB, RB, OT, CB depending on who is available but I think this would be the fastest way to turn this train wreck around. if not & the Texans stay in the 4-3 not only do we still need CB add to that DT & LB. with the revolting developments with QB, RB & OL there are simply too many holes to fill if they stay with the same schemes.

at least thats my

that kinda scares me, cause DeMeco might not be the LB he is now in the 3-4, i say stick to the 4-3, we just need more time to get the players to run this system

I like the idea and was actually thinking what if but we all have to realize the FO isn't looking for a quick fix. If they were, last year's 1st round would have been different. They are rebuilding and it will take a while and a few more drafts. I don't see the coaches scrapping the schemes quite this early. let's give it another 4 years...lol

I wouldn't worry about DeMeco I think he is the type of player that is successful wherever he plays

Stick with the 4-3.. we dont need to go into another year with a new scheme. The 4-3 works just fine, you just need the players to do it.

thats exactly my point. Look we're all tired of losing, sucking real hard but it just seems like we are always fighting the system & now after being built for a 3-4 we switched to a 4-3 & until Mario Williams gets some 1st rd. help on the defensive line hes going to look like a bust because hes is being double teamed & chipped by FB's/RB's with no support next to him in the middle. I'm alrready on record as saying if Alan Branch, DT Michigan declares the Texans need to at least take a long look at him becuase on the impact he would have helping Mario free up a little more as well as solidify the middle.

My main point of this post however is to express another option to address multiple needs, better use of the personel we already have & trade down to aquire more picks (one I'm sure Kubiak thought he could avoid but now may have his hand forced).

Regarding DeMeco Ryans back during the informal workouts (before Fall Camp) I felt that Ryans could be a force @ MLB in the 4-3 despite the majority who thought he was too small for the positon. I also think in a 3-4 it would free him even more to be the playmaker he really is, especially in blitz packages. Regarding Dunta he is not afraid to tackle anyone & has been excellent in run support but sometimes gets behind in man to man coverage. In nickle packages he is able to sit underneath, read the QB & become more of a playmaker not to mention he has excellent speed to become a premier FS.

I think our D is better than being portrayed but could be improved with the personel we already have, allow us to trade down pick a top CB then get a QB/RB plus extra lineman/cb. this just might be the quickest way to improvement, just trying to brainstorm......very frustrated right now. the players, season ticket holders and the City of Houston deserves a break from all of this fumbling & bumbling

The defense is the biggest improvement of this season. Even when they're getting their heads handed to them, they still hit hard.

Maybe if they had an offense that will let them take a knee sometime, they'd get better results.

agreed & the reason we switch schemes, trade down, draft the best cover corner & have an extra 2nd rd. pick- to fix the offense

Our defense is fine. Even though we lost 40-7 today, it was the 3rd best defensive day in Texan history (yards allowed).

If we had a sign of offense we would win games. On defense we are only missing a corner and a safety. It is offense that is the weak link of the team.

wtf? Why we do that?

Did you not SEE our growing pains this year transitioning to the 4-3? And now you want to add MORE growing pains? Why would you do that? Nobody on this staff has any experience with the 3-4, none at all. Who exactly is going to be teaching this stuff?

Boy, will that be a scary day when we switch back to a 3-4, since we spent, oh...I dunno...the entire offseason focusing on switching to the 4-3 (Mario, Weaver, DeMeco...)

The best option for Houston would be to move back to the 3-4. It works great, and with the talent that is being pushed out of the college ranks, it just fits 3-4 styles better.

Defensive Ends in college seem better fitted for 3-4 OLB's, and defensive lines are starting experiencing better success with smaller guys attacking the typical offensive line. (this is why you see teams utilizing the two tight end set more).

Things are changing at the college level, and scouts and coaches need to be able to look to the future and apply some common sense.

Moving back to the 3-4 gives you better options in the draft, and as an added bonus, Peyton Manning gets very rattled when facing this type of defense.

The 3-4 switch is half the reason the Texans are a bottom-feeder team now. Coming off a near .500 season we went to the 3-4, wasted time, draft picks, and good veteran talent. The club already found out that Travis Johnson is not a 3-4 nose (he may not be a 4-3 nose for that matter). Stay the course, get Demeco a savage wingman, and add a ballhawk in the secondary, please just keep moving forward instead of re-plowing old ground. Having athletic guys like Mario and Peek who can play as down linemen gives you ability to add in some 3-4 variety and versatility without overhauling the entire scheme

Hmmmm.... Maybe our defense sucks because they are just out there too much because our offense turns the ball over before they even have a chance to punt the ball. Those guys are physically spent by the second quarter.

Considering the Texans have faced him as an expansion team, yes. Everyone has to start somewhere.

Look at his record verse different defenses. the 3-4 is where he struggles.

Attack the weakness.

Exactly. If we keep switching back and forth, we'll have a big mess of 3-4 and 4-3 players that would lead to another mediocre/poor defense. Keep the 4-3, just work on getting a pass rush and make it more agressive. This is year 1 of the 4-3, we just need to be patient and see what happens.
