Default worst offensive line in nfl history!

You've got to be kidding me....its like as soon as the ball is snapped there are 2 or 3 defenders in the backfield. I know many of you want adrian peterson as the next yr #1 pick, but we have to go with joe thomas lt from wisconsin. If we're going to win this offense has to put points on the board, but how they can do that without an offensive line? they cant pass block, they cant run block. Say what you want about injuries, but every team has that! There is no excuse, mckinney, flannagan, wiegert, pitts, see ya!! all of them are not even in the top halves of their positions....its time to upgrade!

This coaching staff had time to rebuild the line more than they did.

They chose to keep three players - Wiegert, McKinney, and Pitts who have played most of the offensive snaps since this team's inception. They chose to keep two rookies and only 9 o-linemen total on the first day roster. They then chose not to bring in a left tackle whn Spencer went down the second game of the season and instead relied on a swing player projected as a back-up. They picked up a guard/tackle as a back-uo

Kubiak and his coaches did a poor job evaluating, acquiring, and applying talent on the o-line.

I agree, I think the pick of Spencer who WAS playing well before he got injured was a good pick, and WInston, though I was not high on him had a lot of potential.

I posted this in the game thread, but it belongs here.

We need to develop the young o-line talent we have rather than throw them on the scrap heap every year. Even at right tackle Winston looks every bit as bad today as Wand's worst day in 2004. Should we label him a bust and scrap him?

Draft a couple more and stick with the youngsters. Don't rely on Wiegert, Flanagan, and Salaam types any more - that just slows team o-line development and they aren't very good either.

Right behind ya. And more than just getting game time and improving over time it would mean they could develop as a unit. If we keep chopping and changing waiting for something to magically slot into place we're screwed. A good O-Line is a consistent O-Line - one that lines up the same week on week. Have we had the same line any two weeks in a row this year?

This is the worst O-Line I've ever seen, but Winston has shown flashes, as has Pitts and Spencer looked promising till Dayne fell on him. We should keep those three, pick up some talent in FA (Max Starks would be good) or the draft and find a rock solid Center to anchor the whole line around. Someone long term.

Back to your main point though - yes, absolutely, it's time to clean house. Keep what's promising, ditch the rest and stop just trying to patch up what's there. You can't patch up garbage, or you just end up with patched up garbage. What use is that?

The O-line performed terribly today. That doesn't excuse poor play by other members of the offense, but the reality of NFL football is that games are won and lost at the line of scrimmage. Fortunately for us today, we ran into a team whose O-line was just as bad (worse? Yikes). Our defensive line played well, as did theirs. So, in an offset of that nature, turnovers (and bad kickers) decided the game. Most times we are starting off so far behind the curve in a game because of our O-line. It's nice to face off against some even competition.

I don't understand why more people can't get it. The root cause for most and maybe all of our offensive problems stems from a lousy line and injuries have made it into a horrible line. IMO, people would be astounded at how well this team would play if the line were of even average NFL quality.

Look, OL was very weak going into this offseason. So, we went out and got Flanagan to play center and make the calls for the line. We drafted Spencer and he won the left tackle job and we moved Weigert to RT and drafted Winston in the 3rd round.

Spencer, Flanagan, Weigert were all playing pretty well and are all lost for the season: that's LT, C, RT- all gone. That's why the line is in the state it's in now. Depth will be better next year and we probably won't have as many injuries either.

It's hard to watch but it's understandable.

I'm not using the bad o-line as an excuse for everyone. I think our QB has proven he is lacking in some areas and our coaches selections for running backs are as bad as their decisions on the o-line, IMO.

I just want to point out that the coaching decisions did not help us as we built our o-line and therefore contribute to our lack of depth.

Winston had hype and got embarassed at the Senior Bowl. he has been embarassed in 2 games now, but you hope its a learning Experience.

Flannigan was a HORRIBLE sign, the guy has now missed games in the last 3 seasons.

im with RUNNER, Im ready for a young O-line because McKinney and Weigert are absolutly HORRIBLE, and Winston needs another year and a lot of HELP to get things right.

1st pick, an OT and take a couple of Guards in the 3-4 rounds
