Default The Front Page again...

Chris Taylor: By all means get him in there. I can’t for the life of me imagine why he’s sat idle on the practice squad all these weeks. Next week if he busts out for 150 yards we won’t know if it’s because he’s the real thing or because the line just felt like doing it’s job but that’s immaterial. We need to find a difference maker at RB and Chris Taylor is the only rock we have left that we haven’t looked under.

I hate this, but when will we really ever have a chance: Is that really a post on this board? Come on guys if you can’t do any better than that just log out and become one of those guests who usually outnumber the posters 3 to 1. “When will we really ever have a chance?” I’ll tell you when. We’ll have a chance when we stop making stupid mistakes and start playing smarter football. We’ll have a chance when we stop throwing two yard passes on 3rd and 6. Regardless of whether that’s the quarterbacks, receivers, or coaches fault I don’t care but it’s got to stop. We’ll have a chance when decide that we’re going to kick the snot out of somebody not from Jacksonville.

People talking about our lack of talent have a point but they’re not even close to telling the whole story. We don’t have the worst defensive line in the NFL and we don’t have the worst linebackers. I bet we don’t even have the worst secondary in the NFL. We’re probably close but I bet they’re collectively not the worst bunch of players. We don’t have the worst offensive line and we don’t have the worst quarterback or the worst receivers. As bad as they are we don’t even have the worst running backs in the NFL.

What we have is the worst TEAM in the NFL. We’ll have a chance to win when they start to put that together. There is no “I” in team but teams do need leaders. We don’t exactly have one of those at the moment. Somebody has to step up and say “follow me” and it has to be someone with credibility. I don’t honestly know who could do that on our team. I don’t see that person on our roster.

Texans Grades: Let me save anyone who hasn’t read this already some time. They got an F on a lot of stuff and for the most part they deserved it.

Picking #1 Again!: I sure hope not. I have no interest in going through another off-season like the one we just experienced. Thankfully this draft contains nobody that will completely polarize our fan base like Reggie Bush and Vince Young did last year but I’m sure we’d find something to fight about. I still expect the Texans to win some games so I’m not expecting them to finish with the worst overall record two years in a row. I think we pick in the top 5 of course but I hope we’re not going first again.

Mostly I’m sad to see that we’re talking about this so soon. I’m ok with the fact that we’re not talking playoffs because that wasn’t very realistic anyway but I hate that we’re back on the draft with 5 games left to play. That’s the mark of a lousy team. Nobody with a good team is talking about the draft right now. Nobody with any hope is talking about the draft right now. Only the losers care about draft order in November.

This play sticks out to me: I remember watching that play Wolf is talking about and thinking much the same thing he did. Who was open? Why wasn’t anyone open? How come David Carr still doesn’t understand that running out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage counts as a sack? How come nobody can manage to get open or come back to their QB and try to make a play? I thought that play was symbolic of the entire season. As much as things seem better at times they still turn out the way they always have. It was to me a very discouraging outcome for a play where David Carr had that long to figure out what to do. It told me that given forever he will still not be able to make a play. We can debate whether or not that’s his fault or his teammates all day long for all I care but that is the fact of the matter.

Honestly: Do you want the Texans to lose the rest of their games?: Already we’re seeing this garbage? There are 5 weeks left and some very beatable teams coming up. If we lose the rest of our games I am truly concerned for what this means to the team. We all say that Gary Kubiak isn’t concerned about losses right now and that he’s not in the hot seat. I completely agree with that. We say that David Carr isn’t going anywhere and that our team is dedicated to making it work with him and I’m pretty sure that’s the case too. If we stagger into the off-season losing our last 7 games then who here can honestly say that Gary Kubiak hasn’t lost them? Who here really wants to see another year of David Carr after back to back 2-14 and 3-13 seasons? Who in the locker room wants to follow him out of the tunnel at that point? One win improvement is no improvement at all. One more win is utter failure and what do you build in 2007 on that?

Poll: Carr debaters please vote: For crying out loud haven’t we heard enough from the “Carr debaters” already. I keep thinking to myself “Carr debaters please shut up for a while” but that’s just me and I know that’s not even remotely possible in the current environment. Actually I think this is the reason he needs to go. I don’t want to see David Carr sent packing because he’s a failure. I want to see him sent packing because he’s the focal point of everything bad about the first 5 years of the Houston Texans. When Bob McNair said David Carr was going to be the face of our franchise he failed to mention that it was going to happen whether things went well or badly. They’ve gone badly and the town has turned on David Carr much as Cleveland turned on Tim Couch. It’s over guys and the only people who don’t understand that apparently work for the Texans front office. When 2007 starts I expect David Carr to still be our starter but I think we see it all come apart next year if they don’t start notching wins from the start. We’re going to see blackouts and booing in large quantities unless we’re winning from opening day. Anyone here expect us to be winning from opening day? Me neither.

Right now a lot of us wish we’d taken Vince Young in the draft. I wasn’t in that camp and maybe I was wrong. I just don’t know how that will turn out. I do know one thing. When the blackouts come Bob McNair will be wishing we had selected Vince Young in the 2006 draft. I’m positive of that.

GAME PLANNING-Please Explain: While you’re at it would you mind explaining it to Gary Kubiak? Hey get all the coaches in the room and go through it a few times. This bunch seems to need more work on the chapter labeled “Halftime Adjustments”.

It could be worse: Yes and I’m very afraid it will get worse next year (see paragraphs above for details). Maybe we’ll get lucky and the team will see this game as a reality check. Maybe they’ll all get together and say “Enough of this crap!” and change the direction in which they’re headed. A good team would do that. A team with some leaders could do that.

Mario Ragdolled D’Brickashaw: That’s good to read. I’m glad to see that Mario Williams doesn’t appear to be a mistake. I’m glad to see that he’s going to be a factor on the defensive line and that he’s contributing. I truly believe that he’ll be an anchor there for years to come. All first overall picks deal with unrealistic expectations and they all are subject to second guessing. Mario gets a little more than most but I’ve been quite happy with him over the past few weeks. I think he’s going to be a good player for us.

OK, my turn … I think I’m officially done now too: C’mon Hookem you ain’t done. The fun is just getting started! Why in the world would you want to miss out on all of this? It’s time for all true fans of the Texans to embrace the horror and band together for the run to the finish line. You put up with this for 11 games and you’re telling me you can’t do 5 more games? You were here through the Sack-arama of 2002 and the Bataan death march of 2003. You can watch 5 bad Texans games standing on your head man!

If necessary we can send you beer to get you through to the end. Just say the word (and brand) and we’ll get a care package headed your way. Remember man, “If not you then who? If not the next 5 Sundays then when?”

We might feel this way about D. Carr someday…: Don’t count on it. Houston is a notoriously unforgiving city. Sure you can always find one guy who’s willing to hold that sign up in a crowd of angry fans but that’s just Darwin at work.

If it reaches a point where Texans fans run David Carr out of town then it will truly be over. Think Steve Francis.

Sage and Flanagan Gone!!!: Two more gone for the year and ones a starter. Hey look at the bright side of things. Drew Hodgdon gets to try and show that he can do the job (valuable reps are hard to find) and Flanagan was having trouble staying on the field. He can hang out with Weigert who also can’t finish as season intact.

I was getting tired of the “START SAGE!” posts anyway. I’m looking forward to the many “START VAN PELT” posts that will replace them.

Is This place just about David Carr ??: Yes, next question?

5 Long Years: It has been hasn’t it. It feels like 10 years really. It feels like the Oilers from 1983 to 1987 but we’re not on the cusp of a long successful run after 5 bad years. We’re looking at more bad times ahead before we get to the end of the tunnel. I’ve never followed a team with less hope than the Texans give me right now.

Zone blocking and other voices in my head: I would put some kind of answer here but I’m in one of those moods where I never want to hear the words “zone” and “blocking” together again for as long as I live. It frustrates me so much that I really can’t talk about it. Maybe in a couple of days I’ll be able to talk about how we can roll up 180+ yards rushing against Buffalo and then have the kind of day we had against the Jets a week later. For now I just want it all to go away.

The rest...

Bring On The Raiders!: I bet you a dollar the Raiders are saying “Bring On The Texans!” right about now. I like the optimism of that thread title though. It’s got something in it that we don’t see enough of in here these days. That “something” would be no mention of David Carr.

Who does David Carr compare to?: Oh, back on David Carr. Who do you think he compares to? I think he compares well to Trent Dilfer and John Reeves (you guys do remember John Reeves don’t you?)

My Thoughts our Texans loss vs Tennessee: At first I thought this was a new thread and that TexansAllTheWayBaby was just getting ahead of himself and posting the inevitable follow up to our next scheduled game against Vince Young and his Titans. Then I saw it was a thread from four weeks ago and thought “Same difference”.

Now personally I hope we do win that game because a butt kicking at the hands of Vince Young in our own house is going to go a long way towards sealing David Carr’s fate in the minds of many and I don’t want to watch the fans turn on the man the way I know they will when it happens. Like many of you though I expect the Titans to kick our butts. They’re good again and we’re still bad. That’s really all it boils down to.

VP of Operations Quits: Probably entirely coincidental and unrelated to anything going on with the team but you have to admit that it couldn’t have happened at a better time. Guys resigning after games like that just lead to rampant speculation on the part of the fans and media. I hope that whatever personal matter made this necessary works out ok for him and maybe not being associated with the Texans will make him feel better. He won’t have that “We got our butts kicked again” feeling that so many of us carry to work every Monday..

Much of this post runs through my mind, but I'm not articulate enough to express them. My knowledge of football runs along the lines of the average viewing fan. It sure is nice to read posts like this.

Great job Herv!!!

How about Andre dropping balls. This offense has become very predictable because we can't run.

If David Carr's the problem, then I'd sure want to get rid of him. His game has improved quite abit in the last year. I think it would be a shame to loose Carr, but if we pick high enough. I'd pick Brady Quinn.

Carr needa a new start somewhere.
I think that if we pick high enough and take Brady Quinn that we run the risk of going down the exact same path that we'd be trying to get off of by moving away from David Carr.

Quarterback should never have been our first choice in 2002. Building an expansion team on the shoulders of a rookie QB is a recipie for failure the majority of the time. The Browns did this to Tim Couch and the Panthers did the same thing to Kerry Collins. Sure Collins got his act together to some degree and played in a Super Bowl later on but it certainly wasn't with Carolina. Early in a QB's career it's often too much to hand them the reigns in their first year. To do it on an expansion team borders on cruel and unusual punishment.

Build the rest of the team first. Build the offensive line and the defense before you pick another QB. I've been saying that I want a RB in this coming draft but the more I think about it the more I want to see the Texans pick up some offensive linemen or a DT. It's time to put the foundation in place that should have been started in 2002.

We've got a few pieces in place but it's too soon to go get another young QB. Keep Carr another year or if the fans just hate him too much and can't be ignored then trade him for a pick (whatever you can get) and sign Plummer to carry it for a season or two. It's not like it would make any difference. Then when the foundation is there and you have some weapons get your QB and turn him loose.

In this coming draft I wouldn't pick a QB early and I might even wait until the next draft to try for one.

No, no, no, no, no, Thank you for mentioning it but no, no, no.

I am not particularly insightful when it comes to football knowledge. I'm opinionated and I think I know what I'm talking about most of the time but then that just makes me like everybody else in here.

My posts tend to be lighter on content and I know it. I write pretty good and that's about it. You need some serious brains to step in and fill Vinnys shoes. He's forgotten more about football than I'm ever going to know.

I find it odd that none of these posts mention the second most important person on the offense-LEFT TACKLE, ask any coach ( not a fan with an ax to grind ) and he will tell you that a good left tackle is paramount to the success of the running and the passing game. D cordinators love rookies and weak links, O cordinators work to help him, and we, 2 coaches, three O Cordinators, 2 GM's, and five drafts have done nothing good at left tackle.
This team has had no luck, as to injuries this year. The worst part of this year is that next year we're still going to be in the same boat, but contrary to everyone prior, I will tell you this, Carr will be gone BEFORE the draft. Kubiak has a plan and Carr's numbers are up, not to win but to increase sales price, as bad as some would say he is, he is better than Brooks in Oakland, Johnson in Minny ( too old ) and Kitna.

I would have gladly mentioned LT but ours is broken at the moment (Spencer), I've said all that I feel like saying on the subject of Seth Wand (Moot point anyway now), and Salaam doesn't merit much of a response IMO.

I think attempts were made to fix the LT position. Boselli was an attempt and I think they really believed he'd play again. Pitts second season at LT was a good one and the position wasn't entirely a weakness like it had been the year before. Wands first year at LT wasn't much worse than Pitts first season but Wand didn't get a second year to improve. The Texans tried to sign Orlando Pace and I give them credit for the attempt. They didn't get him but they made a very real offer.

Now we have Charles Spencer who looked like he was going to be the real thing to me until his leg was broken. We'll just have to wait and see what happens but I wouldn't hesitate to draft another LT anyway. Spencer could go to LG, RG, or maybe even RT if he could beat out Winston over there.

In such an event I'd prefer Spencer move to LG or RG because I think there we have a real emergency in the making. McKinney sucks and Pitts could use some real competition to maybe jar him out of being a false-start/holding machine. I could see the Texans going into a season with Spencer, Pitts, and Weary at the guard positions with Joe Thomas and Eric Winston starting at the tackles.

I'd accept the best LT available with our #1 in a heartbeat.

Although I'd rather another defensive player with the #1, I wouldn't be upset with that either.

On a more disturbing note. Kubiak reiterated the fact that Spencers injury was "very severe" yesterday on his show. I always thought bones healed better than ligaments. I would have to assume the break was in an odd position on his leg. I hope he's able to come back, but we should plan accordingly in case he can't.
