Plummer Replaced

Well, now that it's looking pretty much official, (I'll post a link if someone doesn't already know... ) what does everyone think?

Personally, this game I think Plummer played decently. The pick was a tip ball, and he didn't make the mistakes he usually makes. It must have been a damn hard game to play, especially knowing what he did.

Anyways, opinions?

To me, the change of QB in Denver is a bit odd. Sure, Jake hasn't played all that well, but 7-4 and in 1st place, something doesn't add up. Last season he was an MVP candidate, now he has got to go...last year they were 8-3 at this time. Sure his TD/INT rati is up, but they are still winning.
To me it just seemed as if the team wants to start grooming Cutler to take over the team for good. They wil lhave had 10 days off to get him to learn what he can before they play again, and I don't know thier schedule, but maybe the next 2-3 games are a bit easier and give him a better chance to succeed.
Plummer is still a good QB, I just think the powers that be in Denver just think it is time to make the change, which I think might backfire, since they are fighting for the division lead with KC. Only time will tell.

As for Houston going after him, well Kubiak does know all about Jake, but the money would be way too much for this team to take with David still getting the remaining of the 8 mil they gave him.Not happening.

If you believe in the QB rating system, then it shows that Plummer has been awful. Only above the three rookies and Andrew Walter.

It is interesting timing. It might be that Denver sees a chance to make an improvement and makes the change. They may think improving the play at their QB position will allow them to go farther in the playoffs. It is a risk, but they must fell strongly that Cutler will do better than Plummer.

I think Cutler will be overwhelmed at first. This isnt Vanderbilt.

But I think all 3 QBs (Young, Cutler, Leinart) will go on to have great careers.

I could not agree more. I went to Vanderbilt. If you want to see what a Quarterback who takes a bad (so Vince Young doesn't count) team on his back and wills them to a win it is Jay Cutler.

The best thing about him is that he is not the headcase that Carr is. Jay will throw a pick, go over to the sideline, drink some water, and then go back on the field and throw a perfect strike. So, even if he doesn't play well this week, the guy is going to be great when he takes over completely next year.

You know I ain't no Carr Homer.... that ain't how I roll. But Carr is getting it together, and is starting to excell..... 22 fo 22. 320 yards against a defense that gives you many, many different looks...... & he's been solid since the Tennessee benching. It's going to take time, we all knew that before the season started.

I am one who didn't think it should have taken more than 8 games for the proverbial light to go on, but I'm not the one making those decisions.....

I'm with you. Every rookie QB is going to go through a funk before they start to get it. Whether it's going to be 4 games, 8 games, 12 games....... & you've got to let him play through it for it to mean anything. Cutler's funk may very well knock Denver out of playoff contention.

For all we know, Jake is starting to hit his stride, and is ready to take the Broncos all the way. We've all seen what can happen when they have a good JakePlummer.

I understand Cutler is the future, but it makes no sense to work him into the lineup, when you're leading the division. If they were in the NFC, it would make more sense, but in the AFC, there may be more than one 10-6 team watching the games in January.


But..... my question.

All the Bronco "fans" who've been wanting, praying for Jay to start, are they or are they not good fans??

Uh..... Vince really should count. Everybody from ESPN to Foxsports, from the Texans message board to every message board across the net(barring Tennessee Titan boards) had the Titans at the bottom of the NFC South, and getting a top 5 pick in '07.


They are a bad team, and Vince did it in the pros.

That's true.

Vanderbilt wasnt a good team & Cutler won some games...

But doing it in the pros is way more special than doing it in college.

Cutler is gonna have way more talent around him than Young does so he should be playing awesome faster than Vince right?

don't know. once they get to the Pros, it's not so much about talent as it is heart. He's going to be getting his butt tagged on a play by play basis, and everything is going to be happening much faster than it did in college. Depending on how he handles those two things.... being mentally & physically tough, willing to get back up, and play some football, and adjusting to the speed of the game.

For all I know, NCAA was slow for Vince, and Jay was comfortable. So coming to the NFL, things are happening at a good speed for Vince, and a little fast for Jay.... so it might take him longer.

If it were the other way around, Jay will be ready for the play-offs.

I understand that you all have probably seen Vince play a little more than I have, so I am not going to argue with you about Vince. Also, I know that Vince did it once with the Titans this last week, that doesn't make it true yet. But, I guarantee you that jay was more than comfortable in the college game. Perhaps I am a bit of a "homer" as is the term so frequently used on this board, but I graduated at the same time as Cutler, took classes with him, did group projects with him, and watched all of his games as a fan. The guy is as calm and collected as can be. He may make mistakes, but he will not sweat any of them. And, unless you watched the Vanderbilt - Tennessee, Vanderbilt - Arkansas, or Vanderbilt - Florida games (I count the last one, because even the National Press said that the refs screwed Vandy over), you can't possibly know what I mean when I say that he lead Vanderbilt.

Also, how many of Vince's teammates from last year are in the NFL this year? I'll go ahead and venture that it is more than 0. Cutler was the only Vanderbilt player drafted last year, only 3 others were invited to camp, and only one made it past the 75 person cut. I say all of that, because there is a larger desparity between the bad and the good teams in college ball, where as in the NFL, the talent is more spread out, and even the terribly awful teams have a chance to beat the great ones.

And, it doesn't matter where the Titans were predicted to be at the beginning of the season, because even if they kept Volek and he started throughout the year, they would more than likely end up with a better record than the Texans. I say that, not as a bad fan, but merely because pre-season polls and rankings mean nothing.

I'm not saying Vince is there yet. I'm not saying he will progress faster than Jay.... I'm saying I don't know. That's what I mean by,"I don't know".

If I seem Giddy about Vince at all, it's because he is playing as well as you can expect a rookie to play, when so many "experts" said it would be 4 years before he'd be competent in the NFL. That he was so RAW, that he was a reach at the #3 overall.

They said he wouldn't be able to do the things he did in college, since the NFL has faster, stronger, better players.... but Reggie would.

I've got nothing but love for the young guys living their dream..... even though I think it is a mistake to replace your QB with a rookie when you are 7-4, and your QB has shown the ability to play at a high level. That is not a knock on Jay.

Why go after another pricey mediocre QB? There are better ways to spend money. If you want to throw money away, why don't we just see if we can get Tony Banks back to sit on the bench?

You have got to be kidding. The Titans have up to 3 RB's who would be upgrades on the Texans, TE's who are comparable, Kevin Mawae, PacMan, Hope and Thompson would be clear upgrades along with Haynesworth and Bulluck.
