Default The Foudation is Beginning to Take Shape

We are not where we need to be yet, but the foundation is is there. We are much improved over last year. Isn't that success? Am I happy with the mistakes? NO!! But I do see that the futer is bright. Who would you rather be NEXT year? Dallas?? I see them going down. Cincinnati?? They are falling apart. The list goes on.

No one in their right mind realistically expected us be in the playoffs this year. I see the possibility of pushing for a playoff spot next year. I like the way the team has undergone a housecleaning. More will happen in the offseason.

Now all we have to do is LEARN how to win.

Good post, and I agree. Kubiak is weeding through the weak links on this team, even cutting players that we might have been able to use this year. But he's testing each player in his evaluations, and obviously nobody has their position handed to them. That players now have to earn their starting jobs is a new attitude for this team in itself.

But we can clearly see some of the cornerstones in place. Robinson, Ryans, Williams on D, and Johnson, Carr, Daniels, and maybe Lundy on our offense. These guys are potential playmakers, and when a team is stocked up on them - along with some quality depth - you see a team winning games on a consistent basis. We just have to be patient and educated about these things as fans.

I was thinking the same thing after the game yesterday. Losing 14-10 to a team that has been on a roll is not bad at all. You can actually see the progress on this team which is refreshing compared to the previous four years of seeing no real progress.

Yes we are well on our way.. with a few free agent pickups and another draft like we just had we will be the surprise team coming up next season not great but a threat to win every game.

When teams go through the rebuilding process, it seems like the first step is winning games at home and playing closer on the road.

I think that we're there. We keep improving every week.

I am glad to see R Smith's defense starting to come together.

I can see your point and also see the improvement, although I'm not so sure that I wouldn't trade spots with either the Cowboys or Bengals.

The Cowboys have better talent across the board, but the gap is closing. Witten, Fasano, Julius Jones, Terry Glenn, & Romo are a pretty good core group of skill players. (Notice I leave TO out, because if they don't cut his butt during the off-season, he will only continue to tear that team apart). The weakness is in the offensive line. They need FA and draft help there in the worst way. I'd trade for their defense in a heartbeat. The only real weakness there is the Free Safety & the fact that Roy Williams can't cover deep. He isn't the worst strong safety in the league, but he certainly isn't the best. The deep middle ball has killed the Cowboys in all of their losses. Add a FS that has exceptional cover skills and this is a D that is among the tops in the league.

As to the Bengals. Marvin Lewis has built them from the depths of awfulness that we can only have nightmares about. Their offensive cast is pretty close to the best in the league. Chad Johnson, Carson Palmer, TJ Who'syourmama, Rudi Johnson, & Henry are dang good. The Bengal O-line has had significant injuries almost from the beginning. Add to that, Carson's tentativeness after the Pittsburgh cheap shot from the playoffs and they've faltered some this year compared to last, but with their O-line health and Palmer firing, I'd trade our O for theirs. The receivers are about a wash, but everywhere else, I think they're better. The Benglas Defense is mediocre, except that they are ball hawks and that makes up for a lot of sins. Their off the field issues and suspensions have hurt them, but I think their talent level is a smidge better than ours right now.

In a perfect world, I'd take the Cowboys D and the Bengals O and ride it to a Texans Superbowl win.

Don't get me wrong, I like where we're going, but its a bit premature to put us above two teams with playoff caliber talent, even if their play doesn't match the talent right now.

Go Texans
