I am hearing a bunch of people throwing hate at Kub today. Lets run down what he has done for this team.
1. Carr. Some of you like him, some do not. Being on of the biggest critics of Carr, EVEN I cannot say I havent seen vast improvement from last year. Before you jump and say 'he has had 4 years to improve', he hasnt all that much till this year under this coach. He is being held accoutable right now and has even shown some interesting glimpses. He has better decision making for the mst part, better ball placement (my pet-peave), and looks more at the players before checking down. He doesnt seem to run for his life every 5 minutes and he also is not making some of the self-sacking mistakes he had before. The ball is out of his hands faster.. much more. He is vast better then last year, you cant argue that, even though I know some of you will try. 2. Banks and Ragone go Bye Bye with Sage coming in. I didnt mind saying by to Banks, but Ragone move surprised me. It doesnt now though. Sage might be a backup player, but he is much better then Banks or Ragone hands down. 3. O-Line. Several points are made here. First, Carr has more time to throw the ball, and better protection at this moment then I have ever seen him have. Yes, there are errors, but let us not forget that some of our starting O-line are hurt and the line still has keep Carr Vertical more. In addition, I am seeing more holes formed and better teamwork out of them. 4. RB. I was shocked when we past on Bush. But honestly, I was happy, as well. I thought with our RB's we had, we were not set, but we had greater needs. Then I was miffed when we took 6th round RB named Wali Lundy. WTF do we need with another running back when have Dominik Davis, Morency, Wells, Taylor, and Hollings. Boy was I wrong. This kid we picked up has really come on since we have started him. I am quite happy with him if Dom doesnt come back, but get well soon Dom. I liked the energy of Taylor, and wish we kept him opposed to Dayne, and I also like Gado. But Wali is only going to get better and he has shown quite a bit of promise. 5. DE. Mario Williams... (I questioned Kubs pick here, but no longer) got 2 sacks today. The last few games, he is starting to make a impact on the game. HE will be a force for us. He is around almost EVERY play. He doesnt give up. I see others quit... he doesnt. Kalu, Weaver, etc are starting to work together. Yes, they have a LONG way to go, but it is starting to look like Christmas in Houston. 6. LB. Who is a impact player in LB? Oh let see.... let me think of one.. How about Ryans! Man.. what a pick. This rookie is AWESOME. Flat out. BTW.. did you see the person trying to calm down Mario after the penalty. Little ole Ryans. 1/2 Marios size and he was trying to hold him back and talk sense into Mario.. Thats Called leadership skills there folks. 7. Other things about Kub.. How about guts.. and putting confidence in the team. How many 4th and 1's or 2's has he gone for it on. How many times has he called out the long pass? HE is showing faith in the team, which is starting to show IN the team. 8. He holds people accountable. Carr saw the bench last week. He was accountable. He has sit or cut a few players because they arent cutting it or they are making too many mistakes. Good. Someone who means business. 9. What an awesome Draft. I havent even mentioned Owen, who every one screamed about not getting a certain safety at that time. Owen has made some great catches. He is looking better and better every week. 9. He picked up Eric Moulds. Look what AJ has become with Moulds molding him better, showing how to be awesome, and taking some of the slack so AJ can get man to man now. Awesome Pickup. 10. No one has talked much about this, but you know. Walter hasnt done that bad either. Soid pickup. 11. Two wins are not that great, but it is already better then last year. Kubs has improved this team. Period. 8 games into it... I am excited.. Not only for the next 8 games, but for the Texans Fanchise. We have the right man at the helm. Let see where he takes us next.

I haven't been around the board today, so I haven't seen any hate towards Kubiak yet.
Having said that, only a dimwit would be dogging him at this point.

Mario only got one sack today....... the other was ruled as an incomplete pass.
Other than that, great post. |

you just called alot of people 'dimwits'!! anyway i haven't liked some of kubiak's moves but for the most part, ive been very encouraged by the early results- and more importantly by most of the recent performances....they're getting it together and putting things in place for future success imo |

I'll admit, "dimwits" is pretty harsh....not really true either. I'll keep looking around to see if there's any logic behind it.
Maybe they're on to something...I don't see it.

Sir. You are the lonely voice crying out in the wilderness. Excellent points. I was trying to construct a similar diatribe but yours covers all of the points I intended. Folks. If you can't see this team getting better under Kubiak, then get an appointment with an eye doctor. I say in no more than 2 years, the Texans will be a division leading contender. You can can quote me if you want. Last edited by Pantherstang84; 11-06-2006 at 10:37 AM. |

I think Kubiak is doing pretty well.
I think he does bring leadership to the team. I think he is getting the most he can out of Carr. I think he is up and down on holding players accountable. I'd like more consistency there. I think he will raise us to a level where we are no longer laughing stocks in a year or two. I think he's a good talent evaluator during the draft. Less so in free agency but still fairly decent. I think the coaches have made a few questionable decisions in personnel. I don't think they manage the 53 man roster very well. At times I question some of the game decisions, but that is about par for the course. I'd like to see him evaluate his own performance and adjust some things there. He seems a little stuborn at times. Just my opinions.

This bashing Kubiak thing is ridiculous, if you can't see the improvement let's talk again at the end of the season and we can all excercise our luxury of second guessing everybody under the sun!
We are in the middle of the season people, bouncing back from last season with a new coach/system and so on. We played like a complete team today, just like we did against the Jags. If we can play more like we did today more consistently against good teams like the Giants we will win a lot more games. Kubiak is rebuilding this team from the ground up and committed to excellence.

I don't think discussing the coach's performance is out of line. Now the TWO extremes - fire him/he's perfect he shouldn't be questioned - might be ridiculous.

He's learning too so I'm giving him some slack. There are some decisions he's made regading clock and game management that I really do not like and hope he can resolve. I don't like when the ball is about to be snapped and the team acts like they don't have the right personnel on the field. Those things are direct reflection of coaching. However I think he did a great job with the draft and, although we aren't winning, this team is much better this year than last.

I think we just have to give it more time, and exhibit more patience, I don't plan on going anywhere in my fanaticism for this team for the next say 50 years, God willing.

I don't know if Kubiak bashing is merited or not but since we are all aware that Carr is the guy and Coach Kubes belives in him, take the diapers off. I believe the game plan called for controlled "safe" passes. I like Kubiak but I feel his arrogance sometimes gets in the way of some of his decision making.

Lets remember he is a rookie too head coach wise. Yes he has been in the NFL forever but never has had to call all the shots and is learning as well. He will be fine it could be much worst we could have Capers still, and Carr would be playing like he use to and being cuddle but Kubes chooses to stay on him till he gets it. This team has turned it around since he has got here, we might have just 2 wins but they have not gave up in the games we lost. Look at last year when we were losing they gave up plain and simple but now he won't let them. He came into a mess and as a first year head coach has done a good job.
