Default Will we blitz this week?

IMO our best shot at winning this game is putting the pressure on Bledsoe and staying in his face like the Eagles did today. Im hoping that we blitz this week, but the first 3 games I guess Richard Smith thought we would give up the big play by blitzing, but we gave up the big play anyway so might as well blitz and try to make a play instead of sitting back and getting picked apart...22 consecutive times.

BLITZ THAT DIRTY COWGIRL!!!

PS: Who do we get back off the injured list this week? Peek, Flanagan, Wong, Faggins, Mathis?

Didn't Peek said that he would be ready to play this week if there was a game? Flanagan should be ready with a few week of rest IMO. Faggins is expected to be back around game 6 right? I don't know about Wong and Mathis .

Now, why would we need to blitz? We can get plenty of pressure just using the 4 highly paid, highly drafted, down linemen from our new aggressive 4-3 defense.

Right?

We have to get pressure in Bledsoe's face.If you let him sit back in the pocket he'll kill ya..Dallas has a fairly good secondary but if we can isolate the safetys long enough they have trouble. The best way to go after Dallas is to man up and go after oversized OLB Greg Ellis.I really don't know what kind of speed this team has but if we can get a RB down field it's going to challenge there base defense.I would install a few 2 TEs and chip Ellis coming in and work the TE into quick reads out in the flat.I don't really know how they plan to match up to our receivers but we have to attack there safetys.Dallas has been poor over the top but if you can challenge Henrys deep speed theres a big play there. The Redskins had a good plan but just didn't have enough talent to challenge Dallas's front 7 in that game. The Eagles like to buy time so there receivers can out run the coverage on shallow crossing routes. They have a pretty good plan for Dallas but without a healthy Westbrook they arn't getting any respect. The Eagles like to send Westbrook deep out of the backfield but we need Mathis in our offense or a real threat ..

WE OWN THE GOVENER CUP OF TEXAS AND THEY SHOW US NO RESPECT.TO THE DALLAS COWBOYS WE ARE THE TOXANS!!!!!!!

Shante Orr is a pass rusher and it speaks to our terrible depth at Linebacker when he is out there in zone coverage. Anyway, we have to get after Bledsoe and hope that Sanders and Drob play to thier potential. Also, since Glenn is more of a deep threat then anything else, we might want to get P-Buch on him since he is probably our fastest corner and leave Drob on TO. I love how physicall Philly was with the Dallas receivers and it obviously threw them off their game, hope Richard Smith was watching...

i expect the coaching staff will be calling for alot of blitzes this week. its obvious that bledsoe is not handling the pressure well, and when the blitz is picked up - he isnt always able to find a receiver (im really hoping that our secondary gets a little shored up and that pbuch or petey gets an opportunity to play this week)

where is charlie anderson and philip buchanon? ive wanted to see both of those players getting some time on the field but have yet to see them

I really hope we blitz but i am concerned we won't. I like what we did last week for most of the game but i am still worried about richard smith's scheeming at this point. I'm not yelling about the sky falling yet or anything but i would like to see more progress on D. If smith tends more toward blitzing this week, it will do alot to ease my concerns because it will show he is learning from his mistakes and growing into the position.

We were promised an agressive D before the season started and I think that if they really COMMITT to that completely then they will have much success (and a few embarrassments but...oh well)

Right?
There were a couple times last night that the eagles got to Bledsoe without blitzing. One sack came when they only rushed three. We'll have to blitz due to the fact our golden front four have yet to come close to the QB without blitzing.

If we do what the Eagles did, we will blitz the inside and bump and run the receivers. If that happens I bet Mario will be moved inside to tackle a number of times. Weaver could have a good game as well as Ryans.

And that's exactly why we're going to get our heads handed to us on Sunday. They KNOW that we can't pressure without blitzing. That means that on passing downs, they KNOW they either will have all day to throw the ball. . . . or . . the DBs will be in man coverage.

Until we can demonstrate . . . not ALL the time, not MOST of the time, just ONCE in while, that we can pressure without blitzing, then they have us by the short hairs.

LOL! I hear ya!

If the blitz doesn't reach Bleedsoe in time our DBs will be dominated. Let's hope our offense can keep up with them in scoring.

What's really sad, is that when "our DBs will be dominated" because of that, you'll see the "The secondary sucks" crowd crawl out from under their rocks.

Still don't know where you get this. The "plenty of pressure with the front 4" approach to defense went out years ago. There isn't a top-ranked (or even top half) defense in the league that primarily relies on sending only the front 4. Even the Panthers, who have a very, very good D-line, send a lot of LB and even DB blitzes. The key is to mix it up, use a lot of showing and deception, and to keep the offense constantly guessing and off balance.

You'll get no argument from me that our front 4 can and must get better penetration, but you are dramatically overstating their expectations.

And FYI blitzing is not synonomous with DBs in single man coverage. You can send extra rushers and still throw your secondary into a zone or a man zone.

I thought I was pretty clear with the "Until we can demonstrate . . . not ALL the time, not MOST of the time, just ONCE in while, that we can pressure without blitzing" . . . but I could be wrong. But my point was, in order "to keep the offense constantly guessing and off balance" you have to demonstrate to them you at least have that capability.

As far as blitzing not being synomymous with man coverage, that's correct if you're only blitzing one man. But Kubiak has stated there's a problem even when 5 men are used. Simple mathematics tell you that the more you send in on the rush, the less you have to cover.

You can't tell me the secondary isn't being put in huge bind if the only time you can get pressure is by sending 2 or more people to back up the line. No amount of scheming is going to make up for that weakness.

Didn't read the posts, but heres my answer:
Will we blitz?

No. We have a very weak secondary, and there is no possible way that Richard Smith leaves DRob or Sanders 1 on 1 with TO or Glenn. The Cowboys receivers are too good, our CBs are too bad, and we will end up dropping like 8 into coverage every single play.

Arrrgh ... and I harp on people for not reading things or dog other posters for displaying poor comprehension. Sorry dude, I glazed it the first time.

As far as this, it's not the bind most people make it out to be. Many teams will send 5 or 6 more often than not. The idea is to make the QB unload the ball quickly and badly. Even crappy DBs can stick with most receivers for < 1-2 seconds ... even ours, or take advantage of a hastily thrown off-target ball or one that is tipped. When the QB is rushed he doesn't as much have time to go through progressions or find the best target. Again it's not to say it will never backfire or the QB make a good pass or they run a screen or misdirection, etc. but good blitzing and playcall variation is the hallmark of all good NFL defenses.
