Default The Schedule.

What would you rather have, an easy schedule at the beginning of the year with the tough games later on, or the tough ones early like we have it. I would rather have played the raiders, titan, browns, etc. early in the year while the team is still adjusting to the new schemes, learning, and getting better. We would most likely have more wins now and the fans would be going crazy. We could still be in playoff contention in december and have games that really count. This team is going to be much better when november and december come around and i would bet the results against the eagles, colts, and skins, would have been much different. No necessarily wins, but much closer exciting games.

I think everybody would rather have easy games in the begining. The team can work stuff out, and still have a shot to win.

For this year, I would have preferred the front end to not be so heavy. Granted, before the season started Miami looked a tougher, and Buffalo and the Jets looked more our speed, so who knows how the season will end up? It's one of the reasons, IMO, that coaches tell players to take it one game at a time and never accept that one team is too good to defeat or too easy to worry about. You never know what you're going to get...

I am content with the situation as it is. If we had lost to the Fins, I may have said otherwise. But I feel that the team will be stronger for this.

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

-Martin Luther King, Jr.

If this is truely the case, I have give credit to David, AJ, Eric, DeMeco and everyone else who stepped up even when there was no hope. This team has so many playmakers just waiting for their chance to shine.

We are in for some exciting times, gentlemen.

I'd just like to see them interspersed more. The tough games are harder on certain players than others and I'd like to see an easy, medium, hard, easy, medium, hard format as much as possible. That way we don't get worn out so much at any one point in the season.

Of course, when your team sux, it's more like hard, hard, medium, hard, hard, hard, medium, impossible.

I almost posted this as a thread yesterday. Good question. This is my spin. For this team this season, I like it the way it is. Reasonable expectation said we had minimal chance against Eagles & Colts. I think most gave a 40- 50 % against skins but things went nuts. Most had Miami at 50-50 but I thought 40 -60. My point is most fans will put up with losses against superior teams, allowing players to develop as season progresses. As next four approach, we should be a better team with certain players returning from injury and the team has more time together. Carr's performance should only get better as most say his confidence is growing. The bye week helps to get over minor injuries such as Carr's arm. Last half is where wins should kick in and I want that momentum going towards the end of season. I think winning the last half encourages free agents to want to come to Htown & helps sell tickets and advertising. Just my thoughts.

I'm with TexansLucky13...... going against the better defenses & offenses in the NFL, the coaches can say look at how this linebacker handled this situation. When you see him do X, you will have this wide open, or if he does Y, then he's giving you this.

What our players learn in these games, against the best should translate better to weaker, less than perfect competition, than what they would learn against poorer competition, trying to implement it against better competition.

For our team, harder at the beginning was better.

We may have more wins now, but lets face it, we are rebuilding.

We needed those games to look deep inside and find some kind of foundation to build on.

Its like in college, do you want to start out against a top 10 team, or start with afew easy teams to work out the problems and build momentum. I like the MLK quote, but the easier the schedule at the beginning, the better, especially for a team like Houston who is basically starting over this year in terms of coaches and a majority of the players.

Harder the better seems to be Kubiaks philosophy as well, but im not nearly as optimistic. Im not sure we learned anything against the colts except for we were really outmatched and need to have a ton of improvement. Boxers learn a lot from sparring but probably not as much when they get knocked out in the first minute of a prizefight.

Easy teams early, IMO. The good times could have injuries that play into our favor at the end of the season, while most teams start off healthy at the beginning of the season. Plus, there is a good chance that teams who have clinched a playoff spot will start scrubs at the end of the year, and we seem to play pretty well against 2nd teamers.

This is a little off topic but when are game times set by the league? Will they look at teams results in the off season and decide what game times will be or can we expect almost all noon games again next years.

I agree with the "intermingled" above.

To have it easy up front may have put the team and fans into a false sense of "all the way baby" like preseason did.

To have it hard up front puts the team and fans into a "here we go again" mentality. But if needing to make a choice, I'd rather they start out hard and fight for the wins so the "easier" games down the road are that much easier.

I think the league looks at the results to set times for games, but towards the end of the year the networks have the option to change the times. For instance if the browns game on new years eve were to have playoff implications, it could be moved to a more favorable time like 3:00. Likely it will not happen this year, but it could.

The dangers of an easy schedule could have been some fool's gold wins or still losing to other bad football teams.

Default Re: The Schedule.

I don't like our schedule because we have hard games early, lots of games at home at first then bye and 6 of 8 on the road, and then home games in the middle of the holidays.

So get burned up on the blacktop at the tailgate, then have huge withdrawal symptoms when the team is on the road, and then have a screwed up tailgate over the holidays. I got bummed out when I looked at the rest of my tickets because there are just so many weeks coming up without home games.

Oh, and as for the football aspects of this, especially with a new system, I would have liked to have had some easier games early. And no Indy game week 2 at Indy.

What I've always wondered is how much soft manipulation of the schedule there is by the NFL. The teams you play is set by rotation, but not the subtle things that can really affect your season. Here's a Texans Fanhouse post on this subject that was just more thinking out loud:

"Does the NFL Intentionally Manipulate Strength of Schedule?"

If I have a team that is on the rise, I want the easy schedule early and the hard schedule late. That way they build confidence with the wins early and begin to believe they can win the hard ones.

If I have a team like ours, one towards the bottom and trying to find its way, I want the hard schedule early and the easy schedule late. Why? Because we are likely to lose early no matter who it is. As we grow confident in the new system and new players, we will get better.

In the playoffs, you play hard teams. Give me the hard teams. If we beat them imagine what our confidence would be like.
