Default Coverage of New Orleans Superdome and the Saints

New Orleans first home game is next Monday, September 25, 2006. Here's the Superdome on a recent tour:

Saints to draw all eyes to N.O.

Hundreds to cover game, recovery too

Nearly one month after the world's news media descended on New Orleans for the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the Crescent City is returning to the spotlight. This time television and newspaper journalists will be reporting on a largely positive story: the return of the Saints to the refurbished Superdome.
I wish I could go down there. It is going to be big. I will be watching it at home though. Want the Falcons to win, but try hard Saints!

Nice for the sports world and some hope for the people of New Orleans. I'm happy for them in that.
But the city still looks like a place where time has stopped.
All of the NE side, 9th ward area up to the fencing where the water rushed in has not been touched ... one year later. Seeing lawyer billboards all over the place seems to be making a statement of what all the red tape and hold up is all about.
It's a bad scene and frankly, does not look like the USA. .. St. Bernard Parish, over to Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, MS. ..etc.
Time has stood still.
Of course in true American style, the Casinos are being rebuilt at a very fast clip.

Yep. New Orleans looks like Katrina hit yesterday in most parts of the city.

I think by Monday night I'll be ready to shove knitting needles in my ears because of all the slobbering over New Orleans.

Here's to the Falcons completely blowing them out. Then we'll know New Orleans is back to normal.

In all fairness to NO, it has been 5 years since 9/11 and the rebuilding of the replacement for the WTC has not begun - and that is one building (if I am not mistaken.) While blame can be spread from Nagin to Bush for the debacle in handling Katrina it is far too unrealistic to expect any significant progress in merely one year.

I'll call them new and improved after they beat someone other than Cleveland or Green Bay.

Personally, I think you shouldn't even bother coming back to New Orleans with comments like this.

You sure you're really from New Orleans?

Anyone who has ever been to New Orleans, pre Katrina, knows what a unique city it has been. The history of the city, and the people, cannot be duplicated anywhere.
Don't know the direction they are headed. There is little or no movement at the moment. It's just a future project. ?? Few people are stepping up so far ... it will probably never be the same.
And of course, the future of the Saints and the Superdome hangs in the balance of the city developing back.

It will take more than 5 years for New Orleans to recover from that destruction. I miss New Orleans, its a place we visited every other year. Some of the best food in the world can be found there.

I hope this game tonight helps lift the spirits of the New Orleans residents. I need Warrick Dunn and Alge Crumpler to tear it up though, they are both on my fantasy team and I'm 13.50 points down.

Oh please shut up everyone about Bush. He is exciting and gives the city something to cheer about. He is a media spectacle, and has a great charismatic attitue.

Some people sound like babies crying over a bit of spilled milk. So far it looks like we made the wrong decision. Its in the past, get over it. Bush's success or failure isn't going to validate the MW pick. Only his play will.

I am not complaining that we didn't take him, just that was all I heard about pregame. McAllister is who I like out of that group.

BTW you are the ONLY one that is comparing ours to theres. I have no intention of comparing
