I am wondering where the leaders are.
I mean here we are with no wins. We've seen first hand what can happen if we allow a losing attitude to settle in. However, I haven't heard of any players meeting or anything. Our team lacks that inspirational leader. I don't care if right now it is all talk, I just want someone to come in and say they are going to do what they have to get it done and he expects the same from each of his teammates. When you look at our team, you don't see anyone getting pumped on the field, or anyone that the team looks to. That's on offense and defense. No Carr, Johnson, Robinson, Payne....nobody. Has anyone heard anything different this year? |

Anybody notice that all our top performers have played for only 3-4 years?
Carr, AJ, DD, Earl, Ryans, Robinson. No one we have signed through free agency has really been that productive. Now I do realize that Davis is not playing, but I am saying over the past few years. All our leaders have come from the Draft, which shows that maybe we are drafting better than we think. Sorry, that thought just popped into my head. If I've missed anything let me know please.

Guys like Chad Johnson took a sorry team like the Bengals and turned them into winners because his vocal leadership had people believing they are winners. Prior to his guarantee against us and KC that team was very bad. Now they are a team nobody wants to play. |

You know, I have a feeling that Moulds is a good leader. I have no examples, I just get that feeling that he tells people what they need to work on to get better. The guy has been around this league and is well respected by all of his teamates. I don't know how much Dunta can lead right now. I say that because he hasn't done much this year and he has just as much blame on him as the next guy. Who knows? I know we do lack the mega personality type that a Ray Lewis or Chad Johnson will bring to the team and I don't think we will ever get anyone like that because we are so big on drafting for "character". The ones that are really fired up and vocal mostly have a few screws loose.

Well then we need to get a few of those guys. Gary Kubiak has a screw driver.

i think a vocal leader that we're missing on defense is wali rainer. if i recall correctly, he was the "rah-rah" guy during training camp and a real motivator - especially for the younger guys. another veteran presence that we're missing is kailee wong, who because of his experience and tenure as a texan is automatically someone who's looked towards when times get tough. on offense it's a lot tougher because the veterans are in their first year as texans ... putzier, flanagan, & moulds. carr should be the default leader, but let's not forget that he's still pretty young in QB years, and still has a lot to prove.
remember guys, this is our 5th season as a franchise. we dont have brett favre going on his 15th year in the organization. we dont have jerome bettis in his 10th, ray lewis in his 11th, or teddy bruschi in his 11th year with the franchise. our defensive leader is a 3rd year cornerback. it's going to take us many years and many drafts to lay the foundation that this team builds from.

moulds is trying to take that part but it's really difficult as a wide receiver, and as someone new to the team. DD wasnt a leader either, he was a producer ... and dang i wish he was playing this season. i have to say it, we could really use some bad intentions on our offense. i love the "good character" players and nice guys, but we've got the seth wand syndrome on offense. there is no smash-mouth, hurt someone attitude that you want from a football team. carr isnt standing in the pocket like he owns it like you see from roethlisberger or leftwich. our rb's arent hunting linebackers (although i think that'll change with dayne getting more touches). someone on that side of the ball has to develope a killer instinct. AJ shows flashes of it, but his personality is so conservative that i dont think he's ever going to let that fire out. hopefully as this year progresses we'll start seeing more of these traits come out.
