SHOCKING: The Texans showed up Sunday in Kansas City as a revamped team. After deciding to start Andrea Johnson at RB and place Davis at wide out, Capers made a strange decision to switch Carr with Dunta Robinson, hoping for more pass protection. This strange team reached further appeal by placing Chester Pitts as the Punt Return man.
Andrea Johnson rushed for 100+ yds and did not fumble. Not surprisingly, he's pretty decent at the catch and run, as a dump off guy. Dunta Robinson threw 2 interceptions, but had 5 touchdown passes, 4 of which were caught by Dominick Davis. He also proved to be an incredible scrambler and did just that for a total of 75 yards in the game. Dunta made one incredible reception on a pass that was tipped at the line. He threw it and caught 20 yds. down field, but was then hit hard by a defender who later stated, "I didn't know if he picked it off or if I sacked him, or what the heck was goin' on." 2 other passes were caught by Davis for big yardage, but he fumbled them. "They tried to bump me at the line, but it didn't stop me much," he said after the game. The Texans still won the turnover ratio when David Carr completed the game with 6 interceptions. On one Int., he caught the ball and then tried to pass it back up field to Jasin Babin, who was too busy beating on the opposing QB to notice. Chester Pitts ran slow and methodically. He was hit by a lot of coverage players and 4 of them will not be playing the rest of this season. When asked about this, Dick Vermiel simply stated that, "That JJ Moses has really grown. God, he's huge!"
Chief's corners were flagged for illegal pass coverage on several occasions when they tackled DD during pass routes. One's reply was, "He keeps getting past the D-line. What am I supposed to do?" On the flip side, David Carr complained a lot about protection. One comment stated that, "....and, every time I touch the ball, somebody is chasing me. I only got one pass off all day and the receiver decided to just lay on the ground and punch some little guy a bunch of times. I swear, he wasn't even expecting a pass."
Dick Vermeil was quoted after the game as saying, "Those guys are *****s. They don't even know what side of the ball they play on. I have to admit, though, they beat us 76 to 10. I've never seen a QB pick off another QB like that or a punt returner knock OUT some of my biggest coverage men, LITERALLY! GOD, JJ MOSES HAS GROWN!"
When later asked about the strange success of this new team, Capers said, "I don't like it. Davis wouldn't fumble if he was an RB. Plus, we're passing the ball too much. How are we supposed to control the clock, if we keep scoring? "
