Check out the stats for our passing game cuz thats all that I could be happy about right now:
We're sixth in the league in total passing offense: http://www.nfl.com/stats/teamsort/NF...r?sort_col_1=8 David Carr is 4th in the league right now: http://www.nfl.com/stats/leaders/NFL/PYDS/2004/regular And even though AJ is 21st in receiving yardage guess who has the highest ypc. AJ!!! http://www.nfl.com/stats/leaders/NFL...S/2004/regular Bottomline, our passing game is great and only if we could learn to not give the ball to DD every single time after a great passing play we could actually put more points on the board and cut on those fumbles!! I hope Capers and Palmer learn the obvious, that the passing game is our biggest strength. SO USE IT!!! Don't run the ball only to turn it over. And this just might help out our defense and take a little bit off their shoulders. But the D still needs to take it up a couple of notches. Last edited by LoNghoRn-TeXaN; 09-20-2004 at 09:14 AM. |

Carr is going to jump down to sixth after the Daunte Culpepper/Donovan McNabb fireworks display tonight.

This was the first game I actually saw Carr show what he can and will be able to do for us for years to come. He did throw the bad interception that lead to 7 detroit points though. I think the running game is what helps Carr though because alot of the real big throws David makes come from the play action plays that buy him time. It all comes down to turning over the ball though. Fumbling and throwing INTs have not allowed the Texans to show the true meaning of their offensive philosphy. If you look at how we moved the ball in the second half towards the end of the 3rd quarter, the passing lanes were open alot more because we were still able to run the ball effectively. We were able to run the ball effectively because we wore down the defensive line with the run. If we could just hold on to the ball and not throw INTs this philosophy would work in our favor to help us win and sustain leads. Again, though, the problem is just keeping the ball in our possession.

I'm drowning myself if we go 0-3.

the big problem i see is that DD is 10th right now in receiving yards in the nfl and tied for 3rd in receptions. i dunno about yall but that's not exactly the passing game that i think we should be relying on. in the next few games, we need to find a way to run several plays without a backfield. carr needs to learn to go through his progressions instead of dumping to DD when he gets scared. we have 3 passing plays ... deep to aj/bradford, quick lateral to aj/bradford/dd, and a dump to dd ... that's not going to cut it.

Ooh don't forget the bootleg to Gaffney! Can we please get a four wide set some time? Another thing I noticed was how we never really send anyone in motion. I noticed the Lions doing that just so they could cross up a defender on one of the WRs and get an underneath route to be open for the first.

I agree! Stop the turnovers and the next four are very winnable! Cardinals weren't scared of the Vikes and look what happened and we lost to Tenn in what, the last 8 secs of the game? KC and Oak aren't going to be easy but winnable as well. Maybe I'm being too positive but I'm not going to get myself involved with the negative hype after two whole games. To criticize is one thing but to want to start firing people is another, from coaches on down to players.

If, and that may be a BIG if, we don't have turnovers and a boat load of penalties, we CAN win these games. Our offensive production has been good enough to get it done. The defense has been a bit soft, but could suffice.
