Angry Most Frustrating Game Ever

I don't know where to begin with this game. I am still ticked off that we have lost another winnable game 2 friggin weeks in a row.

Here are my points.

1. Coaching staff let us down big time today. As Steve Buerlein kept saying during the game, the Lions secondary has been decimated by injuries. Do we attack this? Not until the 3rd quarter. If we had a good coaching staff like New England's and had an OC and Head Coach with balls we would have been exploiting this thing all day. That is what the Patriots do. They have attacked weak secondaries by throwing the ball all over the field. We should have been burning their secondary all day long. Capers needs to get into this thick skull that stretching the defense will loosen up the running game.

Dom Capers is too friggin rote. Yes it is nice to have a balanced attack, but not at the expense of winning the friggin game. He has it in his head that we will run 30 times a game no matter what. Why the **** were we running the ball on our last drive

We can't stop anybody on 3rd down. We were putting good pressure on the blitz against Harrington in the first half yet abandon it during the 2nd half. Can we please put some friggin pressure on the QB on 3rd down instead of only rushing 3. Both SD and Detroit have seemed to convert every important 3rd and long. On the few times we did bring the pressure on the 2nd half, we didn't get there in time.

2. This team is over reliant on Domanick Davis. DD is a nice player when he doesn't fumble the ball. However, he is not Marshall Faulk in his prime. Our passing game revolves too much around this guy. We have got playmakers as WRs to stretch the field yet we don't use them properly. This is another fault of the coaching staff. I think Dom is the problem and as much as I have criticized Palmer, Dom seems to be the problem in wanting to be way too conservative.

3. Turnovers are killing this team. DD had another 2 lost fumbles. We don't seem to stress holding on to the ball. If we did DD would have sit his *** on the bench and we would have put Hollings in. 4 lost fumbles in 2 games is inexcusable. He needs to either sit on the bench or fix this **** ASAP.

4. David Carr had a late wake up call, he sucked in the first half. This guy looked like he was asleep in the first half. Nice one hopper to Johnson which was ruled as a lateral in the first quarter. His INT was inexcusable, throwing off his back foot in to a sea of Lions.

5. This team is UNDISCIPLINED. These guys are Oilersesque in getting costly penalties. The roughing the passer call negating the Harrington's INT was huge and was foolish. Pitts had 2 false starts and we had several holding calls. This again falls on the coaching staff.

Most of the problems we are having is a result of piss poor coaching. We are not giving our playmakers a chance to win the game, either on offense or defense (admittedly we don't have many of those on the D). Capers quit handcuffing this friggin team and grow some balls.

Capers does not look like the guy who will lead us to the playoffs. Charley Weis would like really good here with our offense weapons.

This is a sad day in the annals of sports. I totally agree with everything Texansfight said. What next, peace in the middle east, and Bin Laden singing Kumbaya while holding hands with Bush. :hehe:

Yep hard to argue with these points. At the pace we are using Dom Davis he will catch 150 passes this year.

My luck that the teams that I follow most closely (UT and the Texans) have a carbon copy of each other's head coach. I would kill to have Stoops, Saban, or Charley Weis (not to mention Belichick) roaming the sidelines of either the Horns or Texans. I want a fiery head coach who demands success and is not either the clapper (Mack Brown) or the scribbler (Capers). I wish Capers would throw away his damn notebook and MOTIVATE and COACH this friggin team. Capers, you are the HEAD COACH and not a scout.

With my pro teams I have gone from Jack Pardee to Dom Capers, does God hate me (Fisher was here as the lame duck coach though he is quite good).

I agree with the sentiment of TexansFight (I wish) and his post. I would like to see more passes down the field on 1st & 2nd downs, also. I would like to see the Texans use Davis more sparingly, to avoid seeing him winded. But first, the O-line has to pass block. That's not happening right now.

The line has done an OK job of run blocking, but every guy has underachieved as a pass blocker. Wand has been beat mentally & physically. Pitts looked better at LT. Has McKinney made a call to pickup a blitz, yet? Wiegert did his impersonation of Jimmy Herndon prior to getting injured (wait, that's like Jimmy also). Wade has been OK, but not special. And what happened to using Bruener to help out on the edge rush? What happened to the O-line we saw in the preseason and the 1st half of the SD game? Until this gets fixed, the Texans won't be able to be the downfield passing team we all hope them to be.

I have no answers for the Texan defense. When they sit back and rush 3, they can't cover. When they bring the blitz, they can't get to the QB. It's the vets like Walker, Sharper, Glenn, & Coleman who aren't getting it done. What I do know is that the 2 worst defenses in the league meet next Sunday at Arrowhead. That should be exciting for someone.

David needs to refrain from displaying that stupid grin everytime time he does something foolish. He did it last week when he bounced the ball off the linebacker's helmet. He did it this week when he hit Andre in the foot. That almost was a lateral on top of it all. Come on David, get aggravated by your mistakes.

To make matters worse, I am watching the Jets-Chargers game (I live in NYC) and the Chargers are getting killed and Drew Brees looks like the crappy QB that he is. He looked like an all-pro against us. He and the Chargers are getting booed out of their own stadium

11 passes to DD. The next closest was Armstrong with 4. That is pathetic considering the injury depleted secondary. True, our line wasn't pass blocking great, but frankly, the Texans are predictable. Half the battle is knowing what the other team is doing. More play action, with long passes here and there on first downs would help. So, is it Carr not seeing the field, or is he being coached that if his first option isn't avaiable, to quickly check down to DD? Which is it, the chicken or the egg? All I know is that "the buck stops here", meaning the coaching staff is responsible either way. If it's part of the game plan, and/or coaching this to him, they are directly responsible. And, if they don't want him doing this, they are indirectly responsible for not coaching him better. Either way, the coaches are culpable. Everyone saw what happened when they went up top to AJ and Corey. This isn't rocket science!

It's frustrating to see him make bad passes, but I don't think him ripping his helmet off and cursing his happy feet or delivery will make him a better QB. His attitude is fine and I like seeing a QB who won't quit on himself by getting down.

I think Carr could be a lot better if we could give him some better protection. Today it was awful.

I agree with you Porky.. our TE's only have like 3 catches in 2 games that I can remember. Not to take anything away from S.D. or Detroit, but their secondary can't all be that good. As far as getting to AJ an Corey, I thought we would try to exploit the new rules for DB's esp. , with AJ's size.

My top lists of "fixes"
1) Turnovers
2) Defense has stop people on 3rd and long
3) Pressure the QB
4) Our Red Zone offense needs to improve
5) get the ball into AJ's hands

I don't mean for him to get dejected. Just cut out the grinning and don't give the appearance of being complacent with bad performance. Get mad!!!!!

I know that some of you are going to get mad that I won't jump up on the bandwagon, but I think it's a little lame to always focus on coaching first and execution second.

For one thing, I haven't noticed one single time this season, where the announcers have commented that Carr has had plenty of time to throw. Not one time! Hasn't it occurred to anyone that if David had a little more time to throw, that he wouldn't have to dump it off to DD (double drop) as much?

It is SO EASY to blame everything on the coaching. If I can read just a little more commentary about the lack of execution on both sides of the ball, it would seem more balanced. But I'm not see that? As a matter of fact, I'm actually seeing some people making excuses for DD's fumbling? (giving him the ball too much) How can you in good conscience do that?

Most of the problems we are having is a result of piss poor coaching. We are not giving our playmakers a chance to win the game, either on offense or defense (admittedly we don't have many of those on the D). Capers quit handcuffing this friggin team and grow some balls.

Capers does not look like the guy who will lead us to the playoffs. Charley Weis would like really good here with our offense weapons.
I agree with 80% of what you said.

1) BENCH DD!!! I remember Wells was taken out of the game during his rookie year for fumbling, and Capers wanted to give him a clear message. I really respected Capers for that and thought it was a good message to get across to his team.

2) As for offesive play-calling, I don't have any problems with that. Draw plays have been known to get big yardage, and we were in a bunch of short 3rd down situations where a run would have given us an automatic 1st down. If I had a problem with anything, it would be that we didn't run the ball enough early. Carr looked pretty uncomfortable in the 1st quarter, and DD was doing really well in the early minutes. Stick to DD as long as he's giving you yards.

3) Defense looked bad AGAIN! This is very frustrating because this is supposed to be a Don Capers defense, and right now, they're not even playing as good as they were in our rookie season. What the hell is going on?!? We got burned on big 3rd and long situations just like we did last week. And when did it happen? When we rushed only 3. I'll say it until I'm blue in the face, don't EVER rush just 3. Yeah, we got shafted on an interception with a shady "roughing the passer" call, but i total, defense has not been what we expected. The secondary looks crappy right now.

4) Like you said, we are UNDISCIPLINED, and this is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!!! Why? Because our short franchise has been known for being a class franchise. While we never had the best talent or even good talent, we were all about class. And class means not turning over the football, having good special teams play, not giving up big plays, and just playing SMART FOOTBALL. Plain and simple.

Right now, it seems like the great talent we've added to our team has only made us spoiled. I remember in our previous 2 seasons, we had to play the hell out of every down, because if we were going to win, we had to go out and execute on each and every play. Each down was very precious. Now, it seems like with our talent, we can afford a bad play every now and then and try to make up for mistakes. WRONG! I hope we get our old mentality back of playing hard on every single play and not making mistakes. We have not responded well to success as a franchise. There's a reason why we haven't won 2 in a row yet.

I have NEVER been dissappointed in our team until now, because up to now, I always thought we played as well as we could have. No regrets. Now, there are a whole bunch of things to regret so far this season.

I agree with you. And I normally will excuse just about anything from my QB. But that little "aw shucks...did I do that?" look is getting on my nerves. Yes dear...you did. Now quit it.

Because over 2 games, Davis is averaging over 30 touches per game. It's possible that Davis would fumble less if he handled the ball less. He can't handle this kind of load all year. That should be pretty obvious.

The problem is that the Texan's other back is similar in stature and also has been known to put the ball on the ground. Maybe when they can share the ball more equally, they'll be less likely to tire and lose concentration. And I say that in good conscience.

OMG, you said the O word!! But you're right...thought it many times myself today. As for your comments about Dom, it kinda ties to what we were saying about Carr needing to show a little more emotion when he screws up...I sometimes wonder if Capers is really paying attention over there. If he's got a plan in his head for the game from the beginning and that no matter what happens, he's not changing his mind? During the games, it always looks like he never reacts to anything they do wrong...now, I don't expect him to be Parcells neccessarily...but yet, he keeps trying the same thing...hence your point about DD. So wake up Dom. Try something a little different. I think the Lions caught on to the whole "pass the ball to DD" play. I want some passion from the team leaders...some feeling that they are actually in the game...we used to get that...what happened? We're here...where are they?

Well the good news is that if we tie records with SD we would pick ahead of them.
