If They Kick the Bucket, Who Kicks the Ball? - Houston Texans Message Board & Forum

Seems like there has been a good deal of concern about what happens if we have to go 3 deep into the QB position.......i.e., the "emergency" pick. But, realistically, until we have become more of a proven "scoring machine," we may be seeing a good number of games coming down to and being determined by field position and reliance on field goal points. Yet the question has not come up, what happens if our punter or place kicker goes down in a game. From all information that I have been able to gleen, Brown has never in his career (high school or college included) had experience in punting. Likewise, Stanley has no history of place kicking. Where then does that put us if.......................????? I hope that the Texans have asked themselves this same question.

Brown practiced punting at training camp. Don't recall seeing Stanley try field goals but they are bound to be each other's back ups.

I was watching 2005 Eagles season on NFL Network, and the Eagles had a similiar problem in one game. Akers hurt his leg on kickoff. They ended up having the long snapper, I believe, do a kickoff and a LB try an extra point. When both of those were botched, Akers came back in and ended up kicking the winning FG on 1 leg.

On a side note, I also heard on ESPN radio yesterday that one team is carrying 1 kicker. He will handle all kickoff, FG, and punts. Saved a roster sport there. *EDIT* Falcons are the team: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2579164

I think these and other questions are really excellent points when discussing this team. We have improved every aspect of the ball club, but this one. I'm as concerned about the performances of the kickers as I'm about injuries. Most top teams have an excellent kicking staff.

If you look back at the golden years of teams, you see teams like Oakland with a Ray Guy and kickers like Stennarud and others who just are very reliable and they are called on when the game is on the line many a time. I'm not certain what to make of this part of the game, because I don't think Kubiak has ever even addressed this part of the game in an interview.

Koenen is a beast, Salary cap and position wise. That dude nails it deep too *His record is like 72 I believe*

Kickers are like bathrooms. You may not need them a lot, but when you need them, you NEED them!

Simoneau was the LB that took the PAT, and FYI he actually converted it.

In fact, that was about the only thing that Eagle Nation has ever liked about the guy.

QB same thing. We get that crippled either by unhappy circumstance, or poor play from the line, Richard Smith gets to dazzle us with his brilliance or baffle us with his....well you know the rest. I don't know anyone on the board outside the less than 50 post guys picking us to go to the big dance. How long did it take the titans to get the retread ready to play ? Think positive CnnnnnnnD, Carr's going to throw for three TD's and Rosenfeild comes in the third quarter to mop up the green cheese cake mess off our nice grass.
