Let me start off saying I like DD and hate to see him in this situation. I wanted to see him and DC on the field this year because both have given their bodies for this team.
Saying that, what if DD's body cannot hold up? What if the RBs we have now are doing a super job, their bodies' hold up better, and we dont need DD anymore? Everyone liked the way they looked in preseason and said "Reggie who?" We may have to cut DD next year, or possibly trade. If DD comes back healthy next year, and we have a better back than him, what is his worth going to be? I know we wont fully know till next year how his body returns, but lets just homer it. |

A lot will depend on how well Lundy/Morency run this year. If they do well it might make it a tough decision. If they don't so well and Davis is healthy then I would expect him to be here.

From what I've read and heard, his knee problems are degenerative and probably won't get much better. And even if he comes back healthy there is always a chance that he won't play the full 16 games. I wouldn't count on DD next year. We have to go out and get a running back. But Wali Lundy or Morency could turn out to be super studs specially given the system we run here.

If he is smart, he will quit now before he winds up like Earl and needs to have a cane to be able to walk. I suspect that there will be some sort of off season settlement and he will become the first ACTIVE Texan to retire. I wish him well though what ever route he takes.

Yeah, Will Carroll, the Baseball Prospectus injury specialist who also writes for Pro-Football Prospectus and (until recently) Football Outsiders (I think he might be on ESPN Page 2 now, or something), wrote a week or two back that the last time he saw an injury like this in a football player was Terrell Davis. I hate to say it, but I don't think he'll play again.

They are negotiating a settlement as we speak. Nuff said. DD robs McNair for 21million and retires.

I don't know about "robs" McNair. It is a contract in a capitalist society, so a player has as much right to collect his money as anyone. It's not like DD got hurt on purpose or doesn't want to play. Dude probably has a career ending injury, through no fault of his own.

wow you read a lot into "rob". Actually I blame the Texans for giving a back with a history of injury the phat contract.

I agree with you about the contract decision, though. DD had a lot of potential, but he never played a full season. The team gambled and lost. |
