Owen Daniels continues to impress - Houston Texans Message Board & Forum

Is it just me or do this rookie look really good everytime he gets on the field. We are pretty deep at TE. Bennie, Bruener, Putzier are all looking pretty good, and are playing some H-Back. I think with our two TE sets we will retain all 4 of these guys. And while Daniels is a rookie, he has good hands and looks real good in when he gets the ball in open space. I think he is going to prove to be a great draft pick.

P.S. It was great to see Bennie catch that TD pass tonight!

I think he (O.Daniels) has been great so far. I just hope he gets a chance to show his stuff in the regular season. With so many talented TEs he may not see the field much.

Why are we keeping Bruener around if we are so deep at tight end ( and I agree we are)? He is old and not none for his pass catching abilities but I know he is a great blocker. With Bennie looking good, Daniels having tons of upside and Putzier knowing Kubiaks system I just dont see why we cant dump Bruener now so he can sign on with another team.

From what i hear a real good blocking tight end is hard to find in the NFL. Bruener is a real good blocking tight end but not so much on the hands side. Probably why they will keep him on.

Most teams would kill for a good blocking TE. He has trade value (6th round and lower) IMO. But we keep him.

I see well I hope that he will contirbute this year bc with our depth every roster spot is valuable.

I think his hands are underrated myself. Even though it wasn't the prettiest, he made a grab last night that kept a drive going. I'm stoked over Daniels. He's a very nice addition to our team. I look forward to watching him play for a long time in the NFL.

True, and I don't think he's been in a TE recieving offense before this one. He's a big ol boy, that's for sure.

Agreed, plus during this season, when it is first and goal on the 2 or 3. That is when Bruener earns his money.

I heard an anecdote about Breuner once. I guess when he was with Pittsburgh he was playing in a game when because of injuries they had all their available tackles on the field. He was hoping that something would happen where he would get to go in and play OT.

Like I've said before, blocking for TEs and RBs is as much about attitude as anything else.

Bruner is going to play a key role in this offense, after last night I know the guy can catch the ball. This guy can be a good short down recieving TE because most teams will write him off as a pass catching reciever. I don't know how many of you noticed last week, but O.D. drove Courtney Brown into the dirt a couple of times. I could not believe it when I rewatched the game. O.D. must be really strong, and we all have seen what he can do for our passing game. He was a sleeper in the 4th rnd. Great pick.

I couldn't believe Bruener held on to that ball when he got hit and his helmet came off and he was spun around 180. It might not have been that big of a hit but from what I saw it was a decent shot he took. That holding call he got kind of irked me though.

1. Kubes likes the way the guy practices. 2. As a veteran he can teach the others (Putzier will teach also) 3. No one blocks as well as Breuner and Kubes says the run is what is most important to offense & allows Carr breathing room. 4. We are expected to get into red zone more often. Breuner can power in after a short reception or lead a back across the goal line. I think Putz, Breuner, Bennie and the jet (Daniels) are on team. Tight end plays a very important role in this offense.

This has been one heck of a draft. Mario, Ryans, Spencer, and Lundy are all starters. Owen and Winston are potential starters by years end. So that makes 6. If u count Moulds, that's 7!!!

What you guys think about starting 4 rookies at the beginning of the year?? Our previous high was 3 right starting week 1? Dunta, Babin, and Earl.

Well said. Plus I think we are going to run a lot of 2 TE sets. The depth in talent at TE is just what the doctor ordered.

This Texans offense was almost customized for a TE like Daniels.
He's got excellent hands and can block far better than what I expected.
Also, over the long term I think Joppru is atleast the prospect that Daniels
is, as he's only a couple years older than Daniels even though he's in his fourth year here.
In veiw of Kubiaks emphasis on youth and the future (which is great) given his
cuts of R.Smith & Cowart, I'm a little surprised that Breuner is still here after both of those vets were cut.
