Even though RE is not really suited for Mario. I think it will be his most productive spot on the line. With Weaver on the other side and the eventual two DTs that win the starting spot, it will let Mario "roam".

We sacrifice pass rushing on first and 2nd downs and kinda put the whole pressure on Mario or the blitzing LB to get the sack, but its alot more consistent.

u won't see weaver getting blown up inside, peek overpursuing on running plays, etc.

with that lineup, it will be very tough to run up on us. It really depends on how weaver can defend the naked boot.

I love it, because you're 2 best DL atheletes should be on the edge and its
fine with me if Kubiak leaves these guys at end on 3rd downs if he choose:
Babin and Peek are expendible just like everybody else.
With Mario on the weakside, there will be no TE help and Mario
should be a handfull to handle for the tackle by himself.

This is a chance for TJ to show what he can do playing first string against first stringers, and a chance to see Mario and Weaver on the ends. The depth chart hasn't changed.

We have coaches who try different things to check their own work!

With Mario moving over to the weakside for the St. Louie game Saturday,
it would have given him the chance to go head on, one-on-one agaisnt OP for a whole bunch of snaps. But apparently Pace got banged up in practice this week and he may not even play Saturday ?.

I like Mario on the weakside long term. He has the quickness for the speed rush and he won't be a liability vs the run like Peek was. I'm not sure Anthony Weaver is anything but a strongside end in a 4-3.

I just don't understand why the coaches didn't start this way. They must have been very concerned about the tackles since before OTAs, I guess. Any other ideas?

Seth Payne is a known quantity and nobody should be concerned about Seth going anywhere. He's going to be the first guy off the bench and playing in a rotation like this is going to help extend his career a great deal. If TJ plays the way he should be capable of and Robaire Smith does the same thing then when Seth comes in to spell one of them we should see zero dropoff.

I was thinking (and hoping) for Williams on the weakside, too. I look forward to seeing how this plays out, even in a pre-season game. I'd hope this idea of Weaver on the stongside and Mario on the other end sticks. It makes sense to me.

And of course that's exactly what the Texans signed him up for after Kubiak
came in and immediately decided to convert to the 4-3. As you know they
had nobody remotely qualified to play that position at that time.
Right off hand, I don't know if there's another weakside end nearly as big as Mario ? But as you say he's got the speed to play weakside while not being a liability on rushing plays. He's got the potential to rewrite the position. But
that's potential again, we'll see what he does in St. Lous tomorrow.

If this DL of Weaver, Bear, TJ, and Mario plays real well (dominates for example), does anyone think this wouldn't give someone like Malone a better chance of making the team? And, could it be bad news for Babin or Peek to make it? Just a thought. What do y'all think?

I don't think Babin or Peek are in too much danger this year. There are too many unknowns right now; Ithink the coaches will see what develops this year. Also, even if Weaver moves to tackle, I'm not sure TJ is ahead of Payne on the depth chart.
