I'm going out on a limb and i'll say Alley Broussard LSU RB. If he is healthy from his torn ACL he could be a monster. He runs over everyone like a fullback but has speed in the 4.4 range. He will get his chance because LSU is one of the best rushing teams in the nation.

I'm going with either Brady Quinn or Ted Ginn Jr.

Adrian Peterson had a chance before Rhett Bomar was kicked off the team, but I don't see it now. Brady Quinn has a great chance because of all of the hype and all of the national coverage that ND gets and Ted Ginn Jr. might have some of the Reggie Bush type excitement factor push him towards the top.

A darkhorse could be Steve Slaton from WVU. This guy looks incredible.

he won't play significant time until Auburn and he said that he is at 85% right now, so i'll wait before i start the heisman campaign. he isn't going to put up the numbers to win the heisman anyway. I think you can pencil Troy and Brady as finalists but I'll go with AD. I think, even without Bomar, a healthy Adrian is the best player in the country and will have a big year. OU is going to ride him and that defense to the Big 12 title.

I'm tempted to go with Jamaal Charles, but Adrian Peterson, Troy Smith, and Brady Quinn have the best chances.

It's Brady Quinn's to lose.

He meets all the criteria:
1. He's an upperclassman.
2. He's meets the position requirements (Only QB's,RB's and WR's that also excel on special teams are given serious consideration).
3. He'll play for a contender.
4. He's surrounded by hype.
5. He's a media darling.

Adrian Peterson. With Bomar out he's their horse. He'll keep the shoot out close.

What about the WR from ND Jeff Samardzija? He looked awesome last year. I don't think he dropped a ball last year. I guess Quinn would get it before him, but man he looked good. I hope he chooses the NFL rather than baseball.

My question is, after looking at the Heisman Winners the last 16-17 years, does it really matter who wins? It seems like only 1 or 2 actually come into the NFL and make an impact.

I will be the first to take Steve Slaton. This kid was lights out durring their bowl game, and should find the easy schedule helps pad the stats.

Peterson will get hurt / bad o-line
Quinn has Walker, and Jeff to contend with.
Smith has to contend with Ginn.
Slaton will be the vote getter on WV. Not Pat White.

No, it doesn't really matter who wins. But it's not because of their impact (or lack of it) in the NFL.

From their website:

In the last 30 years, the "winners" are broken down like this...

15 RB's
12 QB's
2 WR's
1 CB

19 Sr's
11 Jr's

I simply find it hard to believe that during that time span, somebody other than an upperclassman (Jr or Sr) or a non-skilled position player was not the most outstanding college football player.

Example: Orlando Pace was a much better OT in college than Danny Wuerffel was a QB (Pace finished 4th in voting).

In 2002, Terrell Suggs set the NCAA record for sacks in a season with 24. He didn't even finish in the top 10 in the Heisman voting that year.

So no, it doesn't really matter who wins it.
