ALLEN PARK, Mich. (Aug. 4, 2006) -- Detroit Lions president Matt Millen has been appointed to the NFL's competition committee. Millen will fill the seat vacated when Charley Casserly resigned as general manager of the Houston Texans earlier this year, NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced. "Matt will bring a very valuable perspective to the committee both as a former player and as a senior club executive," Tagliabue said. --- wow.

What does this committee do? And how does Matt Millen get appointed to anything after the job he's done in Detroit?

well this article does as well as any I suppose.
---- http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll...DATE/608040419 ALLEN PARK - Detroit Lions president Matt Millen has been appointed to the National Football League’s Competition Committee, one of the league’s most powerful and prestigious groups. Millen and the Lions were notified late Thursday night about the appointment by outgoing NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue. A joint announcement was scheduled to be made today by the league and the Lions, who are in training camp. Millen’s appointment is significant for the Lions. They have had almost no presence on major league committees and often have felt like outsiders in key matters. The Competition Committee meets annually to review, modify and propose rules changes. Many in the NFL consider it the league’s most important committee in regards to the actual game on the field. Such issues as rules that protect the quarterback, player safety and comportment on the field have been set by the Competition Committee. ---- basically they are the gatekeepers of the NFL way of playing football. and Matt Millen is now on it. Yes, that is correct. Matt Millen, that Matt Millen.

Hopefully, Millen's responsibility on the committee will be limited to bringing in the donuts. He appears qualified for that task.

That seals it. We can safely assume that Millen has some incriminating photos of someone important. Really important.
