The Lions are expected to keep six receivers and four spots are already secured: Roy Williams, Corey Bradford, Mike Furrey and Drummond. If Martinez makes the squad, that leaves one remaining roster spot for Scottie Vines and former first-round draft picks Rogers and Mike Williams to battle over. The Lions have a lot of money invested in Rogers and Mike Williams, but Martinez says he's not going to worry about it.

I really have to wonder at the coaching staff up there that they can't manage to motivate either of these two players to step up to anywhere near their potential and get them into the top 3 WR's much less the top 6. I mean Bradford is in the top 3 for goodness sakes. In any event--they are going to be paying for the privilege of giving one or both of these guys new scenery. Rogers had a $14 mil signing bonus (probably $8 mil left) and Williams got $10.5 mil (also about $8 mil left to prorate).

Its looking more and more like Bradford has a real shot to start for the Lions as their #2 WR, and several reports out of Philly indicate Gaffney is also having a good to very good TC.
I dunno, but does anybody wonder if Kubiak and his guys missed anything here with these 2 receivers, letting them go and all ? |

Martz must be in love with Bradford's speed. Speed doesn't mean squat if you can't catch the ball. Gaffney should be good in Philadelphia, but Bradford isn't a starting caliber receiver on a good team, just a speedster that can only run a straight line.

It is written on paper, not in stone, which makes it subject to change. But the first semi-official ranking of the Lions' wide receivers is more noteworthy for who is on the bottom than who's on top. Roy Williams and Corey Bradford are the starting receivers on the depth chart released by the team for Friday night's exhibition game against Denver. No surprise there. They have been the No. 1 tandem from the start of the offseason workouts. The surprise comes further down. Mike Williams and Charles Rogers, former first-round draft picks, are listed with the third group. Ahead of them with the second group are Glenn Martinez and Mike Furrey. Martinez spent most of last season on the practice squad. Furrey was moved from wide receiver after two seasons to defensive back last year in St. Louis. And when practice started Tuesday morning, Shaun Bodiford, an undrafted rookie from Portland State, was working with the first unit.
