GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - Brett Favre hadn't yet been outside for practice, so you can't blame the following statement on the heat:

"I really feel like this is, as far as talent is concerned, the most talented team that I've been a part of as a whole," Favre said Monday morning.
Say what?

Although it might seem like a far-fetched thing to say about a Green Bay Packers team coming off a 4-12 season - particularly coming from a guy who spent the offseason wondering whether his team would be good enough to make putting off retirement worthwhile — Favre is gushing about the wealth of ability he sees on the practice field.

This year's team is even more talented, Favre insists, than the Packers' Super Bowl teams of the mid-1990s.

"If we can somehow put it together, there's a lot of talent out there," Favre said.

Favre said the Packers' dominant teams of the 1990s actually weren't incredibly talented, "but we were very experienced."

Anyone watching a couple days of Green Bay practices will tell you that quarterback Brett Favre hasn’t looked very sharp. One local reporter said he’s been completing about 53 percent of his throws in 7-on-7 drills and in team drills. He went one stretch on Wednesday where he completed only one of five passes, including one batted down at the line of scrimmage.

“Brett and the offense really isn’t in rhythm right now,” said first-year head coach Mike McCarthy. “We’re installing plays into our offense while the defense has been playing a lot of man coverage. What I mean is that we’re not running plays to beat what the defense is throwing at us and so they’ve looked better a lot of times. But it’s way too early to be jumping to any conclusions about Brett and the offense.”

I remember reading in Michael Jordan's "For the Love of the Game" book that he said the Bulls team in his rookie year had as much talent as any of the championship teams.

I thought that was a strange thing to say..
